' SLADE AND HIS TACTICS '
A lot has been said by many City fans and pundits about Russell Slade only knowing one way of playing and only using one formation, 4-4-2.
Slade has been called a dinasour for using this formation but I was just listening to talksport and Collymore was making the case for 4-4-2 and how the Premier League is better because of the likes of Leicester and Watford who both use this system with success.
Leicester have been a revelation in the top flight this season and top the division over Christmas and Watford have just beaten Liverpool 3-0 and won their fourth game on the bounce.
I doubt Slade will point out these two teams and their success anytime soon after he got ridiculed last season for pointing out that Real Madrid also use the 'outdated' system.
Obviously Slade wants to use this style but due to having his hands tied somewhat has not been able to bring in the players he wants to compliment his choice of system.
In fairness to the manager we have seen evidence of some excellent football, at home matches recently in particular, so is his 4-4-2 that out of date with more sides going back to the typical British style of play ?

442 isn't out of date it's you need the right players for it and we haven't really got those players at the moment.

The problem has been the players we have do not fit into that system.
The other issue is Slade won't change a player until injured.
He also has no plan B .

Having two fast wingers two box to box players two mobile strikers helps for 442 formation something we don't have.
He needs to play the right players in this system for it to work.
My own opinion is to play 352 we have the players for this formation

The 442 line was just more bullshit from so called fans who want any excuse to slag off slade and have reasons not to turn up anymore.

442 is fine with the correct players, we don't have them, whats missing:-
2 mobile strikers, one is generally the big un but can still move the other is a speedster. We don't have either
2 wingers who can get crosses in - We don't have any
2 all round midfielders who can pass, tackle, block, run and chip in with goals- We have one....

442 can work, and teams like Leicester/Watford have shown everyone that its effective but these teams play with a striker whos work rate is nonstop (Vardy/Ighalo), a Big man who will work for you not just look for headers (Deeney/Ulloa), and Midfield Dynamo (Kante/Capoue/Drinkwater) and the whole team is giving everything for the badge.

My biggest criticism is the fact that he doesn't change the layout of the team when away teams change their set up.

Partly, but you have to admit that one of Slade's biggest weaknesses is his inability to change tactically to adapt to different teams. The game management in the second half against Birmingham was poor - we rarely threatened and it took until ten minutes before time before he made a switch and even then he kept Ameobi on which IMO was a mistake. In that second half we failed to win that midfield battle and we resorted to hoofing it forward. You can't win them all but Slade's subs at the best of times haven't been great.
Admittedly, he's done well in cutting the wage bill which is what he was brought in for but with the players at his disposal you could argue he should be doing better. Onto the next one!

IMO Slade is well and truly at his maximum. There is no more he can achieve or get from the team, or know how to. I don't care if he had the Man City squad at his disposal, he wouldn't have any more to offer. He's about to embark on his 3rd transfer window and we have more out on loan than Chelsea do. If Tan has any interest of getting us in the Prem to make us more attractive to sell then he needs a change now

It's not necessarily just his tactics that are wrong it's his motivation of the players.

I don't necessarily agree with that, i believe that is what he considers management. He bottomed jones on Tuesday then played him friday, nothing to do with motivation, just daftness.

That's the exact tactics and team I would like to see. Try it in FA Cup I say

Im a bit old fashioned and I do like 2 strikers so 442 sits easy on my eye,but I do see the need when we struggle in the middle to revert to a 5 man midfield.
But sometimes its a bit complicating with so many formations,442,351,4231,433 and 4141.
Whats the best I don't know!!!

451 is the best formation.
