The enigmatic Kenwyne Jones

Sunday 20th Dec 2015

By Steve Tucker

You never know what you are going to get with Kenwyne Jones, although, that is a lie, you do know what you are going to get.

It seems the big striker is just one of those ‘in and out’ kind of players. A brace and late winner against Brentford is followed up by this abstract showing against Birmingham.

Jones was well off the pace against the Blues in many ways. He struggled to see the ball and when he did there was more often than not some kind of miscue from him. A first-half chance when in space in the Birmingham box summed it up with the effort coming off his shoulder rather than his head.

But look, Jones remains the best striker at the club really. The most experienced and, right now, the best foil for the impressive Tony Watt. Jones is frustrating in many ways, but you have to live with it apparently. It’s a case of trying to enjoy that frustration.

Remember the good times, I mean, with his contract up next summer, who knows how many more there are to come.

Seemed to be limping when he came out for the warm up.

Maybe he was still sore from the knock he took when scoring the winner on Tuesday.

Seemed to be asking to come off early in the second half.

Maybe he'd lost interest and couldn't be bothered any more.

I don't care if he stays or goes but to get the most out of Jones we need another Tony Watt. 2 aggressive full on attacking "10's" will get the most out of him. He doesn't fit into a 442. He strength is keeping the 2 centre halfs tied up, but for that we need a 433 or 4321 to be precise and we know Russ doesn't do change.

Jones with Watt and Saadi buzzing around him, getting the ball and running straight and hard will cause issues, bang in Ralls or gunnar making timed late runs and there is a game plan.....Sorry Russ doesn't do game plans

Personally I would be glad to see him go, problem is I don't think anyone will take him.

This would probably mean he will end up renewing his contract with Cardiff on a much lower wage, this in turn will result in seeing even less effort from the lazy sod. If he does renew his contract and gets paid anywhere near Tony Watt (if fingers crossed he is signed permanently) then someone in the wage department needs shooting.

I have always been a big supporter of Kenwyne, but after Friday I think he has become a luxury. He needs to he replaced by a big strong, athletic frontman.

We need to move on from KJ, he's a Premier League luxury we can no longer afford to carry.
