Cardiff City fans - Unrealistic & too demanding ?

Sun Dec 20, 2015 1:35 am

I've heard this accusation on a number of occasions now and I wonder if there is any reality to it ?
After all, its only less than a season and a half since the Bluebirds were in the premiership, and what with a billionaire owner, the very substantial parachute payments, and with what is still a high quality squad of players to pick from, is it really unrealistic to expect us to be up there with the front runners ?
And is it really too demanding to expect your team to get a result at a Birmingham City side missing four regulars, and not having won for six matches ?
Also do we now need an outfield player to captain the side ? I've lost count at the number of times that after conceding a goal, our players simply hang their heads and trudge back to the centre circle. Also numerous occasions where certain players go missing whilst taking "rest periods" leaving others to try and make up for them. Surely this would never happen with an outfield captain on the pitch ?

Without doubt we need a leader or leaders, a team is made of different characters and we aren't far off. I get what your saying with regards expectations but the mess we were in premiership or not, then we are doing decent enough.

We weren't good enough for the prem as we finished rock bottom. So is that side good enough to return? Well, we sold Hudson, caulker, mcnaughton, Taylor, theo, medel, mutch, Kimbo, odemwingie, Campbell, cala, daehli, etc. There's quite a few more. We had to balance the books by getting rid of some of the players who were meant to help take us back, brayford, le fondre, guerra etc.

So yes, expectations are too high as we are actually in the running for the playoffs and there's nothing wrong with that at all. Well done slade. U r doing OK.

For me, we have a quality squad. Slade has always said our aim is top six and that's the minimum we should expect - or would be if we had competent manager.

So no, I don't think we are unrealistic.

People can say we struggled in the Premier League, and that's true. We were nowhere near good enough in the majority of our games. But the fact is we were in the Premier League. Only Hull, Burnley and QPR have been there more recently.

David Marshall
Matt Connolly
Fabio
Anthony Pilkington
Peter Whittingham
Craig Noone
Sammy Ameobi
Kenwyne Jones
Aron Gunnarsson

These players have all played in the Premier League very recently. This shows that we have Premier League experience in our side, obviously. That suggests to me that they should be capable of getting to the Championship play-offs.

Given its less than three years ago we won this division, there's no doubt we're not being unrealistic by expecting top six.

I genuinely think if we had a good manager then we'd be much higher up the table.

Great topic though :ayatollah:

I think too 6 is realistic. It's the people on here who expect us to be top two that are in Cloud Cuckoo land.

Like Worcester says only three teams have Prem experience more recent than us but also good championship sides who have been close recently and then added quality in Boro and Derby, Ipswich have been a solid side the last few years and Brighton are taking everyone by suprise.

Most I've spoken to say we are mid table and are content with that.

As long as we do not go down the majority of us will be happy. It it highly unlikely that is going to happen so my feeling are of contentment at the moment.

So fans are not unrealistic, they lack ambition!

I think we can safely say there is absolutely no chance of us going down from where we are right now with the squad we have got.
Although we do have a Jackanory manager who seems to be the grand master of wrong decisions, tactics and selections, who then makes out in his press conferences that everything was just bad luck and nothing at all to do with him ! :o

As far as contentment goes ?
I'm not sure that I'm content with mid table, neither are any of my long term City supporting mates that I knock about with either.
If you take a look at where we genuinely are, you will see that we have a lot more going for us than many other clubs, and the failure to take advantage of this are the reasons why people are staying away in their droves ....

We are back in our traditional Blue
We have a Superb stadium, with scope for even more expansion.
We have a massive fan base should any owners get it right and treat us as partners and not enemies.
We are a Capital city club, the only one in Wales, (unlike London, the capital city of England, which has 14)
We have a Billionaire owner.  :sad7:

And this is where it stops ! So until the day comes when Mr Tan decides to remember that he still owns Cardiff City Football Club, we will be going nowhere fast !

But it's still hard to understand why he doesn't push on with us, as the rewards are massive, even to Mr Tan surely ? The only conclusion I can come to is that he must see us as ungrateful little oiks regarding his taking us to the premiership and then us complaining about his decision to change our colours to red.
The question from most fans is though, just how long does he intend to punish us by keeping us in limbo ?

Tan should have given Ole £100m to spend to go straight back up.

I think a little more than 7 games to gel a new squad would have been just fine ;)

So if Slade does go anytime soon, Who would be the City fans favourite to replace him ?
