Slade: Referee made a mistake
18/12/15 10:33pm

Russell Slade felt that referee Keith Stroud made a mistake in rewarding Birmingham a penalty but was pleased with Cardiff's strong performance.

It wasn't Keith Stroud . Stroud was replaced during the week with a pulled hamstring . You would think at least Sky would have realised that given they televised the game .
The decision was an obvious mistake but how many saw it in real time thought it was a penalty ?
Quite a lot I would guess . The referee doesn't see numerous slow motion replays .

I am struggling to get over a few things about the ref giving the penalty...

On looking at the replays we would all agree not a penalty!

But one angle sky showed of the incident, it showed the referees position. His view was blocked and surely he could not of been 100% confident that it was a penalty. If he hadn't have blown for the penalty and his linesman thought it to be a penalty he could've brought it back!

And the other point if he deemed it to be a penalty which he obviously did. Connolly should have been shown a red card. I am pretty sure by the letter of the law blocking a clear goal scoring opportunity with your hand(unless your a keeper) is a sending off.

Some may disagree but I would be in favour of refs being able to see replays if they are not 100% sure. Would've taken less than 30 seconds to look back at that and realise a penalty was a mistake.

"Lucky break!" that just about sums it up. The ref made an awful decision but I'm sure we wouldn't be moaning if it was the other way around. What goes around comes around and things will even themselves out by the end of the season. It's a bit like the lottery you only have to play to be in with a chance of getting lucky.
