' Sky Blues looking to convince Cardiff City '

Tony Mowbray hopes to convince Cardiff City to let him keep Ben Turner on loan for the rest of the season.

17/12/15

The Coventry City boss and technical director Mark Venus have been continuing their search for a centre-half of a similar class and stature for when the Sky Blues Academy graduate returns to the Bluebirds on January 3.

But Mowbray is hoping to that his opposite number and friend, Russell Slade, will agree to Turner staying on at the Ricoh Arena to help with the promotion push, with a 24-hour recall in case he’s required back at the Championship club which is currently coping very well without him.

“The search goes on for a dominant centre-half and sometimes all you feel you do is look for footballers, sitting in recruitment meetings and talking about which ones are going to fit,” said the 52-year-old.

“There are a lot of potential foreign players but is the language going to be a problem, will they hit the ground running? But we’ll keep looking to try to find the right option.

“That said, there’s no guarantee that Ben will go back.

“Cardiff have lost a couple of 2-0 leads and ended up drawing in their last two games which will be frustrating for them, of course, defensively but the situation is similar to that with Newcastle and Adam Armstrong.

“But if they can keep winning or keeping clean sheets Cardiff they might see a benefit of keeping Ben here and then at least if and when they need him in an emergency he’s fit and played that week. He could go straight back to them on a 24-hour recall and play the next game as opposed to going back on a pre-arranged date and sitting there in the Under-21s and not playing for weeks and weeks. That might be an option, let’s wait and see.

“Maybe we can extend the loan until the end of the season with a recall which would benefit us and benefit the boy playing. It might not benefit them financially but they have still got to pay his salary.

“But if he’s not going to go back and go straight back in the team he might as well stay here and save them a few quid in his salary and have him play regularly and keep him ticking over.”

He added: “There might be other options for him, of course, other Championship clubs who could take him and pay all his salary but Cardiff would have to decide if they want to give him to a competitor.”

he's got his game time in and should not be playing league 1 football any longer than necessary

Put him straight into the team alongside Manga which, in my opinion, is our best CB pairing. Tough luck on Morrison and Connolly but that's football.

Absolutely get him back asap, put him straight into the side with Manga, move Connolly to right back and stick with Fabio at left back . With Marshall thats a great back five and promotion may be a possibility

And while we are at it get Tom Adeyemi back from Leeds so we can have some legs in midfield for the last 20 mins of games

You've got a good argument with connelly, he's composure and distribution is better than turners. But imo defensively Turner is our best player, he's a rock.

I like Connoly and Turner together.

Turner in my opinion is class, Manga will be sold but hopefully to fund MORE players :bluescarf:

So you'd oust Peltier who argubly should be captain of our team in favour of Connolly at RB - are you out of your mind ?

Connolly should be in the team but at right back in my opinion. A class player with a fantastic record of getting promotion to the PL but almost always as a fullback. A better player than Peltier and should be first choice RB.

all the good positive things around connollys play this season have proven that he should play through the middle, where he has wanted too. He's been given the chance and taken it. A far better option than the hoofball we get from Turner.

Would rather connolly and manga at the back all ben does with the ball is punt it back to the other team.

Certainly not out of my mind just Connolly is a better right back than Peltier especially going forward , and Manga and Turner are better centre backs than Connolly and Morrison. We have conceeded 10 goals conceded in 5 games

Thats the great thing about football its all about opinions. I am happy to agree to disagree.

He might as well stay there.

Slade has made it clear that he will not drop Morrison or Connolly no matter how many goals we concede.

If Manga can't get in the team then Turner would have no chance. Better to have him playing football and being on a 24 hour return should Morrison, Connolly and Manga all get injured or suspended.

Who can we get more money for - Manga or Turner? Four first team centre halves is a luxury we can no longer afford. :bluebird:

Re: ' Sky Blues looking to convince Cardiff City '

Thu Dec 17, 2015 1:32 pm

Most of our defensive problems actually stem from midfield! In every game we have conceded goals and the lead we have been overrun in the middle and Slade hasn't addressed that. Bringing in Manga and/or Turner won't solve this, especially as Connolly has been player of the season so far! We must adapt to other teams' changing tactics during the game. Slade cannot do that- he's got a 4-4-2 fixation....DJ all over again!

At a rough guess that would mean 12 goals in 15 games before that.....Only difference is Ralls and Gunnar.......The back 4 have been the same most of the season
