Slade should have made changes as Brentford – albeit able to throw caution to the wind – swapped the defensively-minded Toumani Diagouraga for the creative Jota and ensured the Bees found even greater space between Bluebirds lines.

Slade might well point to his change after the equaliser indirectly leading to the goal when Scott Malone’s introduction for Anthony Pilkington pushed Fabio on who duly set-up Jones’ late winner. Yet the team were left exposed with the leveller almost inevitable, perhaps hence why the anger was focussed on Slade. However, it’s time like this that you’d have liked to see more leaders in Cardiff’s side as they lost their shape, played silly passes that only invited the ball and pressure back on them and no-one seemingly prepared to take responsibility. Slade spoke of unity and strength of character after the eventual win, but while the comeback deserves credit a greater degree of leadership on the pitch may have stopped it getting to that stage.
