Cardiff City goalkeeper Ben Wilson has returned to the Bluebirds from his loan spell with AFC Wimbledon after responding furiously to Twitter abuse from the London club's supporters.

Wilson joined the League Two side in October on an emergency loan move and made eight appearances for the Dons along the way.


But after producing an erratic display in his side's 2-1 home defeat to Stevenage on Saturday – where he let a long punt up field bounce over his head for a goal – Wilson was heavily criticised by fans of the Kingsmeadow club.



He came in for abuse on social media with one fan tweeting him to say: “I'm glad you think it's funny, the teams already got enough c**** who don't care.”

Wilson hit back by saying: “Got enough of them as supporters like you also.

“You're still paying to watch every week and helping towards my wage, I'm laughing and you're losing out.”




While coming in for flak from some Wimbledon fans, Wilson received words of support from Cardiff fanatics as well as a selection of those from the League Two outfit.

It remains unclear as to whether Wilson's Twitter spat with supporters is the reason for the goalkeeper returning to the Welsh capital though the end of the loan deal was confirmed by the Dons on Monday afternoon.

In a statement on the club's official website, AFC Wimbledon boss Neil Ardley said: “I’d like to thank Ben for his commitment while he was here and wish him all the best in his future career.”

Neal Ardley has announced that Ben Wilson, who joined the club on loan following James Shea’s injury, has returned to Cardiff today.

Neal said: “I’d like to thank Ben for his commitment while he was here and wish him all the best in his future career.”

wilson sounds like a right arrogant plonker .... what an idiot responding with a comment like that. If thats is attitude towards supporters then i hope he never gets between the sticks for us.

Disgraceful reply especially from a junior player.

I think it's a prime example of a very young and immature guy responding to criticism so let's not slag him off too much. I'd be more disappointed if it was a more experienced player if they had come out with a reply like that. Also,sometimes when people get involved in repartee,they say things they may regret later. Someone should have a word in Wilson's ear and perhaps he'll realise he's wrong and apologise for his outburst.

Agree it just shows how much young players have to learn with the examples they need to set as professional athletes on social media.

He's a great goalkeeper, bags of potential, but he should be more professional than that as a football player. Fan criticism is part of the job, you must choose to ignore it.

Whilst accepting a certain amount of 'provocation', I think this is disgusting and it makes you wonder if that is the attitude of many other players?

Ben Wilson is a talented young man with still a lot to prove/achieve in the game and in life. Not endearing yourself to the fans (or the manager) is not the best way to further your career!

He said something like "great another warm up just to be on the bench" he deleted it soon afterwards aswell.

I previously sat directly where people warm up for a season. The amount of players that didn't look happy close to the end of the game. The body language of average players is shocking.

With Guerra looking the most glum game after game. Barely even bothering to look like he cared after a while.

They were like a group of startled dogs when one of the coaches called to them up the line "ME? ME? ME?"
