What next for Whitts

By Simon Gaskel

Peter Whittingham had been a regular under Slade, despite a clamour from fans for him to be dropped.

Slade made that call at Bolton and again went without Whittingham in Saturday's draw.

Whittingham’s problem is that if he is not playing from the start, he isn’t exactly the kind of player you can turn to on the bench to make a big impact, particularly in a game where things are delicately balanced or the Bluebirds are chasing the game.

So for a second consecutive week the 31-year-old didn’t play a minute and was forced to watch as Joe Ralls put in the type of display that showed he is fast-becoming the Bluebirds’ leader in midfield.

Displacing him or Aron Gunnarsson, whose different attributes complement Ralls, may be no quick process.

Spot on... The way we won both games 3-0 demonstrates this was the right thing

I agree that 4,4,2 doesn't suit Whitts style of play but if he had come on Saturday,he wouldn't have given the ball away as cheaply as some of our players in the second half.
