In the first half, young Joe Ralls was outstanding, he was dictating the tempo of our paly really well and was confident enough to accept the ball in tight situations and he had the technical ability to keep our paly flowing. Some of his passing was sublime, the passes to release Pilkington for his goal and to set Watt away prior to the Jones' disallowed goal were worth the admission alone. What galls me, if Whittingham had played those balls his sycophantic supporters would have been eulogising about the quality of his left foot.
Second half, Carlos Carvalho reorganised his tactics, he brought on Hooper for Lee and changed their mindset. Lopez the defensive midfield player dropped deeper between the two centre backs and initiated so much of their attacking play. Bane and Wallace, their two most creative palyers adopted more central positions, which gave them more accuracy and guile in their movement and passing. He also pushed their two full backs, particularly Palmer on the right, further forward, pushing our two wide palyers into more defensive positions. As a result after the initial 10-15 minutes of the second half they wrestled control of the game. Our midfield were struggling to get hold of the ball and put pressure on their dangerous palyers like Foresteri, Bannen and Wallace. It seems inevitable that they would grab a nod equaliser after their opening goal.
Unfortunately, Slade failed to respond to an opponent's tactical switch once again. He allowed Wednesday to grasp control of the game. If we had managed to take the chances we created on the counter attack, presented by their change of formations, we would have been singing his praises this morning. However, we failed miserably to convert those goal scoring opportunities, and they started to dictate the pace of the game and create chances of their own. Inevitably, we dropped deeper and deeper allowing them to cease the initiative.
Watt looks a great buy, Noone is regaining confidence, Ralls is developing at a rapid rate in midfield, Peltier looks a strong, no nonsense defender. There are lots of positives that suggest we will continue to improve as both steam and an attacking force.
Connolley looks very shaky yesterday after looking so composed this season, too prone to error in my opinion. The weakness defending our left hand flank is also becoming more obvious with every game.
