FootballLeagueWorld writer Ashley Williams identifies three things to look out for in this afternoon’s game…

Cardiff City v Sheff Wednesday

12th Dec 2015

1) Cardiff concentration at the back and revived strikeforce

The Bluebirds have some talented defenders such as Matthew Connolly, Fabio and Sean Morrison, but always seem a bit edgy in the final quarter of their games.

The clash will likely be a tight game and the Bluebirds back line will need to concentrate as it could prove to be one goal that could seal the points.

The positive signs are that the Bluebirds are starting to score goal more freely from open play, something which they had previously been lacking.

2) The winning side could close the gap on other sides around them

Three points for either side could be a massive result and take the pressure off slightly.

If Birmingham City, Brentford or Ipswich Town slip up, then it will open up a four point gap from the three sides below them and close the gap on the sides above them.

Burnley and Hull City have hit a bit of wall in recent weeks, and both of these sides should take advantage of that.

3) Sheffield Wednesday need to start strong in the game

Carvalhal’s biggest task is getting his side to start a little stronger in games, having scored just one goal in the opening 15 minutes of a match thus far.

However, their ability to remain tough to beat is certainly a key ingredient in any promotion-winning season.

Cardiff is always a tough place to go and the Sheffield Wednesday players will need to be on top of their game right from the first whistle.
