Michael Chopra confirms he will apply to be new Alloa manager

Alloa chairman Mike Mulraney says he has had "dozens" of applications for the vacant manager's role since Danny Lennon resigned on Monday.
The Wasps' striker Michael Chopra has confirmed he wants the job and will formally apply soon.
Mulraney told BBC Scotland: "There's been an enormous response already from all over the world.
"The first applications came in before midnight (on Monday), there were more before nine this morning (Tuesday)."
Mulraney revealed he received even more interest in the position during the 5-0 defeat to Dumbarton in the Scottish Cup.
"I took four applications since we came here tonight," he said. "One email, two agents and a call from a manager himself.
"We never comment on front runners or any runners at Alloa and I think it's important to keep who's in the race very quiet, because some guys who have shown interest could be with other clubs or still playing."
Mulraney added that some of the interest has been from people in "the Southern Hemisphere, Africa and Ireland".
Former Newcastle, Sunderland and Cardiff striker Chopra helped save Alloa from relegation last season and now wants to do his bit from the dug-out.
At 31, he would be the youngest boss in the Scottish Professional Football League if he was to be successful in his application.
"Yes I'm interested," Chopra told BBC Scotland. "I want to try and help the club as much as possible.
"I've worked under some good managers and learned a lot from them. I'm sure I could pass on my experience to the players I'm playing with.
"I'll speak to the chairman and take it from there.
"I know what gets said in the dressing room - I can see it and I hear it. I know what the lads want and I'm pretty sure I could do a good job."

Would be brilliant if he could get it and actually did well. Depending on his management style etc and if he's matured. He could potentially join the coaching staff here?

I don't think that's a good idea he will only take the players out to the casinos and get pissed. :laughing6:

Plenty of players have turned their careers around. I doubt he's drinking and gambling as much on the wages he's on at Alloa. His demons have come out. Not saying he could be our manager any time soon but if he were to get the role and build a reputation for himself then who is to say why he couldn't get a role at the club here? Similar to how Feeney joined Newport

You can't even compare , Feeney did not need to turn his career around

Because Feeney has never been a Gambler or Drinker, debt collectors/Gangsters after him a Fact and is well Respected in Football, after 51 caps for Northern Ireland.

Plus Feeney has in 3 years taken a Non league club in to a play off position, plus Linfield Runners up in Northern Ireland and had more success in Europe than any other Northern Ireland club, Left them top of the League after 11 wins in a row.
Joined Newport who were bottom of the League and are no longer, plus in the FACUP 3rd rd after 30 odd years, Feeney and Sheridon doing a great job, Feeney takes over in May as the manager after Sheridon retires.

Chopra might perform miracles you can never say never, but you also need to be well respected first :thumbright: :ayatollah:

If he was gambling away 40% of his wages when he was with Cardiff on a small fortune a week and still gambling 40% of his wages on a much smaller wage up in Aloa then he's still gambling the same amount. It's all about how much of what you earn is being gambled away.

I like Chopra, a true Cardiff legend but when you have gangster turning up to training it's got out of hand. Happened to him at Ipswich.

You can compare though? Chopra has played at a higher level in his career. Feeney took over a job at Linfield, the Irish Premier League. Whilst Chopra would potentially take over a team in the Scottish Championship with teams such as St Mirren, Rangers and Hibernian in there.

Did I say Feeney needed to turn his career around? No. I said Feeney got a job at Newport by building himself a reputation. NOTHING to do with his personal problems. Feeney has only managed Linfield as a manager? He was assistant at Salisbury?
