Pilkington Believes...

Wed Dec 09, 2015 10:54 am

Cardiff City midfielder Anthony Pilkington believes a top-six finish is the minimum requirement for the Championship club this season.

The 27-year-old scored the winner in Saturday's 3-2 win at Bolton, which lifted the Bluebirds up to sixth place.

"Cardiff's a big club. Everyone expects us to be right up there, and rightly so," Pilkington told BBC Radio Wales.

"I don't think you'll find a stronger subs bench in the whole Championship. There is real quality in the squad."

Cardiff have now lost just two of their last 11 games, keeping five clean sheets

"The minimum has to be play-offs for a club like Cardiff in this league," Pilkington continued.

"It gives us a big lift now going into the Christmas period.

"Everyone is together. There is nobody moaning."

"Hopefully everyone can stay injury free over the Christmas period.

"We've got a lot of games coming up so hopefully we can get more points on board going into the Christmas period."

Russell Slade's side now face three games in the space of six days, all of which are against sides just below them in the league table.

Cardiff host Sheffield Wednesday and Brentford on 12 and 15 December respectively, before an away game against Birmingham City on 18 December.

We are a tough side to beat. Once we get past the shaky final 10 minute defenses and start scoring some goals...there's no reason why we can't stay in the top 6, come end of the season.

He is right though. Usually the bench is stronger than the players on the pitch.

examples?

Bruno Ecuele Manga
Fabio
Macheda
Ameobi

Those 4 to name a few.

Stronger is debatable. But POTENTIALLY each one of them can improve the team... Just so happens Ameobi for example is in not great form, but he definitely causes more of a threat than Noone does...I see both points to why the bench COULD be strong, and ISN'T strong. It's just about form. At everybodies BEST form, yeah the bench is stronger.

which account are you coming at me with

i have my own views on Fabio personally, however, he has literally just come back and thats the only reason he was on the bench.

Who is ameobi and macheda better than ffs?

Manga is the only one who you have a point with, but have been performing well defensively and yet again someone who has spent a lot of time out injured.

Manga has to be straight into the team on Saturday , top managers know their best players and play them no matter how well the ones currently playing are doing . You can always improve

Fabio just back from injury. Macheda literally just back from injurie plus most would agree watt and Jones should have started. Manga I agree he should play and ameobi can't play for more than 30 mins cas he's a crock.

So quite reasonable selection really all considered. Plus factor in that we won the game, not much to complain about aside those not content unless complaining
