' Cardiff City legend Craig Bellamy wants to become Bluebirds boss as he steps up bid to enter management '

08/12/15

BY MATTHEW SOUTHCOMBE

The former striker also revealed that he has spent time with Ajax recently in a bid to gain more experience

Cardiff City legend Craig Bellamy has revealed he wants to manage the Bluebirds, insisting he could turn the club's fortunes around after the setbacks of recent seasons.

The 36-year-old made a pretty impressive debut on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football last night and revealed his aspirations for the future.

When asked about his ideal first job in management, Bellamy quipped: “Probably Man City at this present moment, with all the money they have.

“In an ideal world, probably closer to home at the moment, like Cardiff, like Wales.

“It’s something I’m really close to at this moment and I feel really confident I’d be able to do something about it.”

Bellamy has been working with Cardiff's academy on part-time basis in recent months and maintains a big passion for his hometown club.

He previously revealed how he was asked to take the Cardiff reins on a short-term basis following the departure of Malky Mackay but declined the offer.

It’s often said that good players don’t necessarily make good managers, but the former Liverpool and Manchester City front man isn’t resting on his laurels.

He’s been out at different clubs, gaining experience and earning his strips, so that if one day a job does come along, he’ll be ready for it.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time off,” said Bellamy.

“But over the last couple of months, it’s been really good going into clubs and having a good look around.

“Last week I was at Ajax for a couple of days and really enjoyed that, trying to (learn), it’s been good.”

Earlier this season, when results weren’t going the Bluebirds’ way, Bellamy was being touted for the main job at the Cardiff City Stadium by former teammate Jay Bothroyd.

He was also a guest of the club when Cardiff hosted Reading that same week, but Bluebirds chiefs insisted there was nothing in it.

As much as I love the thought of Bellamy becoming our manager, it would be a massive gamble...one that I don't think we need to take right now. Yes, some of our football this season has been uninspiring dog shit, but we're in too much of a financial mess and in too good of a position in the league currently to be sacking our manager. Let Bellamy manage a few lower league teams and get some feathers in his cap before he comes to us.

Id take him, of course it would be a gamble but he has so much passion and I like the fact he is a bit of a character, bit of a perfectionist and is a born winner. He would be determined to be a success as a manager.

that's what makes Jimmy Floyd very impressive, I think he came to management after a great career as player the right way, the experience with Burton means he actually has experience of management rather than Bellers has none.

I don't think necessarily it matters that much, but prob under stressful situations it is helpful to know what you did good, and wrong in the past.

I've said plenty of times on this forum that I'd like Bellamy to get experience elsewhere to prove his worth. Now though, he may have no managerial experience but he has been working hard and continuously learning.

Many managers jump straight into their first manager role and have worked out.

Bellamy will be determined to be a success and his professionalism, discipline and attitude as a player will be the same as a manager.

Especially after last night's MNF football when he said "he's very confident he'll be able to do something about it" tells me something is going on behind the scenes.

When he was a guest at Reading when he said "there's only one man standing in his way". He's got something up his sleeve for sure.

I'd love Bellamy as our manager NOW. Can see Slade being our manager til the end of season. His job was to stabilise the club financially and still remain competitive.

But if Bellamy becomes our manager at the start of next season, I'm sure he can carry on from Slade's work at the club and take us onto the next level!

Agreed. Sadly , we missed out on Hasselbaink. Bellers would need someone with the necessary experience alongside him. They'd have to be a strong character as well. As a strong Liverpool fan, I've always thought his commitment to us was a bit suspect....unlike Pulis!

he didnt do it to do us a favour though, and for me a city legend is born out of what they do on the field.

It was very convenient for him to come down here and play, put it that way.

I like Bellamy, one my favourite players to put on our shirt. Love his attitude and he's always been misunderstood, last night he proved he was an incredibly intelligent and grounded individual. His persona on the pitch was to gain that competitive edge which it did.

However to call him a Cardiff City legend is absurd!

Anyone who scores the winner against those jack wankers instantly becomes a city legend.
No argument

Cardiff City legend Craig Bellamy ....Got to that bit and stopped reading  legend be fucked

He come to play for us as he was due to split from his wife as they was on the rocks that's a FACT and the only reason he come back home was to try patch things up at the time.

Shame the focus is on if he is a legend or not rather than the managerial aspirations. I like Bellamy, scored a winner at the Liberty in the last minute. Enough said

Totally agree but sometimes you have to role the dice. If you want a top manager you have to bust the bank and be realistic who you can get. But when you go for an untried yes it's a gamble and their are arguments for and against, but it's a gamble worth taking. He knows his stuff, whether he can succeed is anybody's guess. I hate comparisons to monk. Monk is monk bellers is bellers. Bellers would restore passion for sure

Can you really see bellers being told he had to sell anything at a price while having hardly anything to spend and tan dictating. Let's be real here.

Tue Dec 08, 2015 8:59 pm

Good idea. Just what we need. Lets pay someone a ridiculous amount of money to play golf with and get tips from Dave Jones down the Vale each week. Maybe if we're really lucky we can get Anthony Gerrard in as assistant manager and he can show the youth players how to take penalties.

We started December in the top 6, if we don't finish December in the top 6 sack Slade or move him as sporting director and let Bellers have a few months sussing who is who.
