' FORMER CARDIFF CITY FAVOURITE TO RETURN? '
Former Cardiff City star Joe Ledley is struggling to get a place in the Crystal Palace squad, never mind a first team place.
Ledley has always made it quite clear he wants first team football and even more now that Wales have qualified for the Euros 2016 and has said he would one day like to return to his home town club Cardiff City.
Last Summer City made an approach for Ledley to return, but Ledley turned it down as he wanted to stay and fight for his place at Palace.
City have continually monitored his situation and will go back again in January to offer a loan deal for him.
Ledley has recently bought a house for his family in Penarth.

I don't like the idea personally of going after former city players. I'd rather go after new young talent.

We could consider an "all four" left footed midfield again, anybody remember a previous one?
I remember one from a few years back

Whittingham, Ledley, McPhail, Parry.

Double bid for him and campbell! Maybe sitting on the bench for 6 months has changed their minds!

I'm reluctant to keep pursuing players that have previously rejected a move to us. I also don't think he's the sort of player we need right now.

Where will he play ?

It would good to have him back, especially with the Euros coming up, he needs to play games and it would be nice to have Cardiff player in the Welsh squad

Especially if he has done well for us in that time

He would be one of the best midfielders in the championship.
Possibly the best when playing well.

In the middle with Ralls I assume. Or slade might also be eyeing him for that lop sided inside left position he loves so much.

He's a definite upgrade on O'Keefe, and sadly an upgrade on Whittingham now (apart from Whittingham's dead ball skills)

Nothing is ever the same when you return. If he was playing regularly for Palace and wanted to come back I could accept that but just to return as he can't get any better offers rubs me up a bit .Ralls is class and Gunnar is City through and through .Thanks Joe but no thanks.

My thoughts as well mucker.
Also there would be a huge wages issue.

Tend to agree with this point of view...
We weren't good enough for him when he left and we weren't good enough in the Summer. I would have big reservations about his motives for 'dropping down' a division after his previous comments!
My views on 'how' he left originally are well aired and any 'permanent' transfer would involve a signing-on fee
I would 100% begrudge that after what he 'cost' the club (in real terms) when he left for Celtic

As long as he doesnt come in at the expense of joe ralls i wouldnt mind this signing.
I cant see the two joe's playing together tho as they are too similar a player? Would much prefer to keep Ralls IMO if it was one or the other

Definitely.

Hasn't the same composure on the ball as Ralls, an upgrade on Gunnar though, but never going to happen, he won't come cheap.
He is 29 whose best attribute was running / stamina and i doubt he does that much these days.
If we can get him even until June I'd be surprised. Can't see that happening unless we are planning to sell Ralls,Gunnar or Dikgachoi.

No time for sentiment in football, if he comes in and gives 100% he'll be a top signing. However I Can't see it happening tho he's gotta be on around 30k a week surely.

He's still good enough for the premiership I think he will go to Norwich, WBA or Sunderland personally.
Tue Dec 08, 2015 5:54 pm
He's a key member of the Wales team and needs to be playing in the Premier League, not the Championship. Forget it.
Tue Dec 08, 2015 8:52 pm
Too good for us. Ain't nobody, like Joe Ledley.
Tue Dec 08, 2015 9:33 pm
They can keep him, get someone younger in, like our sub Kennedy
Tue Dec 08, 2015 9:55 pm
Personally I think we have better playing for us now. He is one paced and not going to significantly improve us. So thanks but no thanks Joe.

Totally agree, Ledley is no better than what we currently have and I don't want him anywhere near our club after the way he treated us.

You can't begrudge him leaving to go to another club, especially one that plays in the Champions league regularly.

If Ledley left us for a Premiership team, or to a league higher in standard to allow himself to progress as a footballer, fair enough.
But to leave us for an inferior league giving himself no opportunity to progress as a footballer just to receive an increased pay check, left a bitter taste in my mouth and stopped Ledley from ever being able to improve and accomplish anything at a higher level during his career.
Moving to Celtic was a move filled with financial greed and a complete lack of ambition, whilst also shafting our club financially at the worst possible time. His move came a few months after we spent a small fortune looking after him when paying for his hip operation.
We made Joe Ledley, bringing him through the academy for years and Ledley repaid our club by ditching us for the first lucrative pay check waved in front of him. The thought of Ledley returning to us to 'wind down' his career doesn't sit well with me at all. It's exactly the type of attitude from a player we don't want to bring into our football club. I would much rather us bring in someone hungry who actually cares and wants to do well for us.
Tony Watt's attitude has been a breath of fresh air and we need to be bringing in more players with this attitude. We don't need mercenaries like Ledley who only wish to join us on his terms when it suits him.
