Bolton boss Neil Lennon has revealed the cash-strapped Championship strugglers could not afford to sign Charlton Athletic striker Tony Watt.
The young Scottish striker recently joined Cardiff City on loan, with Leeds also interested, and notched his first goal for the Welsh side in a 3-2 win at Wanderers on Saturday.
Bolton are in desperate straits financially but did recently look into a temporary move for Charlton’s Igor Vetokele, who turned down the chance to leave SE7 due to fitness problems.
And Lennon has now admitted that Watt also slipped through his clutches.
He told The Bolton News: “I could have had Tony Watt – Charlton offered him to us and we couldn’t afford to pay him.
“His wages weren’t massive. And if Tony would have been playing on the other side of the pitch we would have won the game.”
