Cardiff have strength in depth most Championship clubs would covet

By Steve Tucker

Russell Slade has real options in his squad. One only needs to take a look at the Bluebirds’ bench at the Macron Stadium to see that.

Just looks at the list of substitutes: Fabio, Bruno Manga, Peter Whittingham, dropped by the Cardiff boss, Joe Mason, Kagisho Dikgacoi and Sammy Ameobi.

That is a list of first-teamers right there. A lot of clubs in the Championship would want players of that quality.... and they only make the Bluebirds bench!

Most of them, of course, have been Slade first picks up until recently.

That the Bluebirds have one of the best quality squads in the entire Championship has never been in doubt.

Suddenly we are starting to see that and it can only be a massive boost going into the packed festive fixture schedule.

' Tony Watt '

The search for a strike partnership to fire the Bluebirds into goal scoring form could finally have been solved.

Kenwyne Jones is a given in the side, the big striker an essential presence, a man mountain, making up for ground not covered with guile and just sheer strength.

But suddenly the Bluebirds seem to have the perfect foil for Jones in the on-loan Tony Watt. The striker is just a bundle of energy and forward thing positivity.

He tormented the Bolton defence, who found it hard just to get a grip on him as he dropped deep and fled out wide.

His goal too, the opener, was a cracker really, nice patient approach play by the Cardiff team, then Watt surging forward from deep, before cutting inside to fire in off the post.

Slade said Watt is getting fitter and stronger. Cardiff it seems could have quite a player on their hands as a result.

Agree.
The penny seemed to drop vs Bolton but against Burnley Slade acted like a 12 year old.

Slade is fighting to save his career and seems to be listening and acting to fans and selection advice.

Its good to see.

Just need to make sure these players stay in January.

We should be top 4 Imo.

IF we have all this strength in depth then it just shows you that the manager has been failing as we should be higher than we are.People have been saying about how he has had no money to spend etc BUT in al fairness he did and stil does have a fair sized squad and options

what absolute nonsense. all of it.

do you honestly believe hes picking the team based on what the fans think ffs!!!

and hes not fighting to save his career at all, theres no way he would be out of work for too long should he leave us. more than likely league one or something sure, but what an odd thing to say.

who should we be top 4 instead of then? then team who havent lost in 19? the team who have spent 20m on players? last seasons playoff finalists who have also spend a shit load on players? or two newly relegated sides that havent lost much in the way of talent and added to it?

When he took us over we were 15th so he has improved us and done that with having to reduce the budget due to poor managerial decisions by Malky and Ole.
