Reading are considering an audacious move to make Dennis Bergkamp their new manager, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Royals sacked boss Steve Clarke earlier today. Arsenal legend Bergkamp is the surprise name on their shortlist, the report claims.

The 46-year-old was reportedly on the Championship side’s radar a year ago following the dismissal of then manager Nigel Adkins, but they eventually opted to appoint former West Brom boss Clarke.
Bergkamp, aged 46, is currently assistant manager to Frank De Boer at Ajax, but is thought to be keen to start his own managerial career.
He started coaching in 2008, two years after hanging up his boots, and has experience with the Netherlands B team and Ajax’s youth teams.
Former Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson, who was sacked by the Foxes in the summer, is touted as another contender for the job.
Clarke was sacked after Thursday night’s home defeat to Queens Park Rangers, having recently granted permission to speak to Fulham about their vacant manager’s position

a gamble i know but it could pay off

Reading had a good manager in Steve Clarke who was getting them heading in the right direction until a few poor results recently. I think in the long term Clarke would have continued improving them. I hope their gamble backfires and they struggle for many, many seasons now. They're being impatient going for a big named manager and demanding results right now instead of planning for a stable, progressive future. Reminds me of another club who have gone drastically backwards from doing the same thing...

This would be like an Ole appointment for them I would get Pearson personally.

Ole was a disaster. His experience was manager of a club playing in the Norwegian league. Bergkamp is coming from a much higher place even though he is assistant. A club like Reading is a good step for both parties. We should have aimed for the likes of the Dutchman.

Former Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer has revealed his interest in becoming the new manager of Reading following Steve Clarke’s departure yesterday, according to Sky Sports.
Clarke was dismissed from his post at the Madejski Stadium following Thursday night’s 1-0 home defeat to Queens Park Rangers, a result which left the Berkshire club in ninth place in the Championship table.
The 44-year-old was dismissed by Blackburn almost a month ago, being replaced by former Norwich and Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert, and feels he still has plenty to offer a Championship club.
When asked if he would be interested in a return to management, specifically Reading, Bowyer told Sky Sports: ‘Of course, I’m looking to get back as soon as possible.
