SLADE - BOLTON IS NO FORMALITY

Fri Dec 04, 2015 6:26 pm

Cardiff City result at Bolton is no formality despite Trotters' turmoil, says Bluebirds boss Russell Slade.

They may be a club in turmoil, but Cardiff City boss Russell Slade has warned his side’s trip to Bolton this weekend remains far from a formality for the Bluebirds.

Neil Lennon’s Trotters are in disarray . Welded to the bottom of the Championship, off the pitch the club finds itself fighting for its very future.

With £185m of debts, owner Eddie Davies no longer willing to bank roll the club and no buyers on the horizon, Wanderers announced this week that their players had not yet received last month’s wages.

They are not problems a million miles away from those the Bluebirds themselves have experienced in the past, but Cardiff will travel hoping to put the knife into the Trotters weeping wounds.

There remains just one problem though, for all the disappointments and paranoia, Bolton remain insanely hard to beat at the Macron Stadium.

They maybe favourites to drop to League One, after many proud years in the Premier League not so long ago, but only one side has managed to better them on home soil this term and that was Birmingham last month.

Saying that, Lennon’s men have only managed to win once in front of their own supporters too though and that was at home to Wolves back in September.

Wanderers are the home draw experts in the second-tier, drawing seven of their nine games so far.

Now a draw on the road in the Championship might constitute a good return usually, but the Bluebirds are hurting right now.

Last weekend was a mixed one for Slade and his men in a way. They put in a performance against Burnley in the Welsh capital that was regarded by many as perhaps their best ever under the current manager. What they did not achieve though was the desired result, despite leading 2-0 with barely five minutes of normal time left, two late goals for the Clarets earned parity and saw the Bluebirds slump to 10th in the table if still only two points off the play-off places. It meant just one win in the last six for the Bluebirds.

The trip to face Bolton also presents the challenge of righting a couple of recent slights on the Welsh club by Wanderers.

Last season Bolton beat the Bluebirds twice 3-0 in the Championship, up in Lancashire in November before then completing the shame in the Welsh capital in April.

It is little wonder then Slade has come out fighting this weekend albeit a confidence tempered by some of his good old fashioned caution.

“Last week against Burnley was a disappointing result and particularly the manner in which it happened, we did not deserve that” said Slade.

“We will go to Bolton with the target being three points of course. We want to bounce back and keep pushing for the play-off places.

“I’m not convinced any off-pitch troubles at the club are going to make a difference in the match. It is another Championship game and is going to be very tough. They have a good manager there and some real quality players. We are going to have to be at our best to get a result.

“Bolton have been very tough to beat especially at home where I think they have seven draws, that says a lot, and not many clubs have won there. We want to be one of those who does.”

There may not be much loved lost on the pitch at the Macron Stadium, but there could be some real brotherly love to admire on the pitch.

The Bluebirds’s Sammy Ameobi could well find himself coming face to face with big brother Shola, who signed for the Trotters last month after being released by Crystal Palace.

The 34-year-old has made five appearances for his new club so far, finding the net once so far, on his debut in a home draw, naturally, against Leeds.

Younger brother Sammy meanwhile was one of the victims of a virus that has swept through the Cardiff camp this week, hitting up to nine players. Striker Joe Mason was one of those laid low, but he will hoping to play at least a part against the club he’s had three loan spells at in recent seasons.

The Bluebirds have been boosted though by the news left-back Fabio will travel as part of Slade’s 20-man squad to Bolton. The Brazilian has been out since Cardiff’s draw at Ipswich on October 31 with a foot injury, but has made faster progress than expected.

In the end, the odds say the clash will finish in a draw, but, for very different reasons right now, parity might not actually be an option for either side as the battle lines are drawn and the season defining Christmas season moves into view.

Bolton are virtually down and out at this moment, not won for 11 games , more players suspended, more injured, not paid the players, going in to admin and bottom of the Championship and fans given up

4-0 City :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I can say that because we played Blackpool at home on April 25th 2015 at which time Slade had been managing us for over 6 months.

That's how I can say that.

Slade will go to Bolton looking for a draw, and if he achieves such a result, he will hail it as great result, that's what he does

Wouldn't it be refreshing if Slade said
"We are going to go up there and try to smash
Them, every game is hard in this division
But we will fight to win"

His predictability is powerfully strong.
The only strong feature about him.

We'll be lucky with a 1-1. Can't see us scoring more than 1 away from home at the moment. We're bound to concede as we spend the last 20 defending our own box. Hope I'm wrong. :ayatollah:

Wolves have already lost at Bolton this season. Bolton have only lost 1 game at home all season, yet the majority of us think we will smash them. Incredible.
