Cardiff City defender Sean Morrison urges club to throw energies into keeping Kenwyne Jones

4 DEC 2015

BY STEVE TUCKER

Jones was linked with a move to Cardiff’s Championship rivals, Sheffield Wednesday, recently and his contract at Cardiff expires next summer

Cardiff City defender, Sean Morrison, has urged the club to do all it can to hold onto star striker Kenwyne Jones.

The Trinidad & Tobago internationals sees his contract at Cardiff expire next summer meaning in January he will be free to speak to other clubs with a view to a move.

Cardiff initially started talk about a new deal in the Welsh capital with the 31-year-old in September without a conclusion and recently manager Russell Slade said they would reopen negotiations with Jones and his representatives in the new year.

And Morrison now, who has proved a key member of the Cardiff defence this season, said it was vital Jones remained at the club, branding the striker virtually irreplaceable in the Championship.

“You can’t buy experience Kenwyne’s got. He’s played eight-and-a-half seasons in the Premiership,” said Morrison.

“A player like Kenwyne is vital to a Championship team. He’s big and strong, he’s going to score you goals and not only that he’s going to link up play with people.

“If we can hold on to Ken and get him to play as many minutes as possible and keep him fit, it’s huge for us.”

Jones was linked with a move to Cardiff’s Championship rivals, Sheffield Wednesday, recently and Slade has revealed he will be looking for a new striker in the forthcoming transfer window.

After failing to get a Premier League marksman in on loan recently it is believed the Bluebirds might return next month to try to get their target.

Last season’s top-scorer, Jones has just three goals for the Bluebirds so far this term, but his importance to the side was reiterated recently when a spell out with a shin injury coincided with Cardiff going more than nine hours of football without a Bluebirds’ player finding the net.

He should be urging City to keep their main centre-half.

He won't be staying on those wages and if he wanted to extend his contract they would've done it by now.

He dictates our style of play with very little reward. I hope he goes January.

you said no to him staying though? It's like your saying because he's overpaid you want him to go when he's our only striker who scores and many other quality attribute's about his game . Not a dig btw just don't understand your opinion on this

Wages don't reflect his performance as a player. But he gets our goals from headers so got to keep him! Best defender from corner too!

Jones is good but he's not worth 37 k a week and with our cost cutting he is going.

Don't forget Saadi and Watt.
watt is not a proven goalscorer at this level and saadi although he looked class when he came on he could be just another sick note type so be careful what you wish for

He has 3 goals !!!!!!!

The same as the centre half and two less than the guy whose confidence is totally shot

We have no mobility or pace

Hasn't he been injured though? So you can't really question his goalscoring record really.Plus he has the schoolboy next to him so that's a disadvantage

If Cardiff owners just want us to remain in championship on a budget he'll go.

If they have ambition to go up they'll sack Slade bring in couple of players in January and have a go
