' Semi Ajayi Settles In Quickly '

Tue Dec 01, 2015 4:30 pm

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis praised the debut of his new loan signing Semi Ajayi after he helped the club claim a clean-sheet and a win over Oldham. The on-loan Cardiff defender also played a major role in the winning goal for Adam King, with his accurate free-kick finding his defensive partner Ben Nugent inside the penalty area for the knock-down.

Tuesday 1st December 2015

Ajayi signed on loan until early January just before Thursday’s final deadline and went straight into the side to face David Dunn’s Latics.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Semi came in and was excellent for us. He came in on Friday and only trained the one day with us. It is never easy when that happens but he settled quickly and played really well for his debut.

“He showed some real composure and is very athletic. He is big and strong and good in the air.

“I thought the partnership with Ben worked well and they both played well. They deserved that clean-sheet because they restricted Oldham to few chances.

“We did some organisation with him in training and having played before with Ben would have helped.

“Semi comes highly recommended and Cardiff see him as one for the future. They believe that he has a good chance of making the breakthrough there.

“I am sure he will benefit from the experience of being here with us and hopefully he can carry on in the same sort of form.”

This is promising. I watched AFC Wimbledon concede 4 goals earlier this season and 3 of them were Ajayi's fault, including recklessly sliding in to give away a penalty. I didn't think he would ever make it for us after watching that display, but he's still young, learning and improving.

There's no better club to send our young players to than Crewe and the fact they're struggling will mean Ajayi will do lots of defending, which will make him really learn and improve from the experience. It seems he's heading in the right direction, it's very encouraging.
