Anthony Stokes' escape route: Cardiff back in for frozen out Celtic striker
1 DEC 2015 by Craig Swan
THE Parkhead hitman, who created a Twitter storm after hitting out at Ronny Deila for leaving him out against Caley, is back on the Bluebirds' radar.

In January City could be looking
Is he prolific?
His career record is not too bad at all to be honest. In his first loan spell at Falkirk he scored 16 goals in 18 starts which is incredible really. He did not really manage to pull it off at Sunderland though with just three goals in 36 league appearances although half of those appearances were off the bench in fairness.
Short loans spells at Sheffield United and Crystal Palace only brought a single goal for the Eagles. But it is in Scotland Stokes seems to thrive. In his season at Hibs he scored 24 times in 47 appearances, catching the eye of Celtic. For the Hoops his return has been decent if not spectacular with 76 goals in 185 games.

Who is Celtic FC striker Anthony Stokes and should Cardiff City make a move for him in January?

BY STEVE TUCKER
Football correspondent Steve Tucker takes a look at the man who could be offered to Cardiff City in the January transfer window
Cardiff City are being linked with a move for Celtic striker Anthony Stokes in January , with boss Russell Slade looking for more firepower in his side.
Here, we take a closer looked at what 27-year-old Stokes is all about and assess whether he would be a good acquisition.
Who is he?
Born in Dublin, Stokes was schooled in the game at Arsenal and played in the Gunners’ reserve side when he was just 15 years old. He made his first-team debut as a substitute in Arsenal’s League Cup tie against Sunderland on 25 October 2005, coming on for Arturo Lupoli in the 88th minute of a 3–0 win.
It proved his only senior action for the Gunners. He was loaned to Falkirk and then joined Roy Keane at Sunderland where he got his first taste of Premier League action. He he had loan spells at Sheffield United and Crystal Palace, before falling out of favour at the Black Cats and moving north to Scotland again and Hibernian. He got a move to current club Celtic in August 2012.
What sort of player is he?
Stokes’ game has been marked really by a good set of skills. He has a great first touch and is not afraid to take on and beat a man. He has a great shot on him too and a real eye for goal. He’s not the greatest in the air or the quickest of players, but he makes up for that with a great reading of the game.

What about international football?
He’s got nine senior caps for the Republic of Ireland, but no goals. Stokes earned his first full cap for the Republic in their 2–1 win away to San Marino on 7 February 2007. He cause controversy by withdrawing from the squad for the Nations Cup in 2011 because he said he was tired. His last cap for his country came back in November 2013.
What’s the problem at Celtic right now then?
There have been a few questions about Stokes’ temperament down the years and some off-field controversy.
Most recently, after being left out of Celtic’s match-day squad at Inverness Stokes sarcastically tweeted how marvellous it was to travel all that way to sit in the stands. He later apologised, but manager Ronny Deila commented: “We travel every week with 20 players and the manager puts out 11 and seven on the bench and there are always two left out.
"If that is harder for him than somebody else, then for me he is not a team player. What is important with Stokesy is that he has to show the work first before he speaks and if you do that then you always have a future. But so far he has been more about talking than performances.”

One of my Dad's mates Willie Mcneb who was a coach for Falkirk in 2000's said he was an arrogant brass idiot, but a talented one at that. He scored 14 in 16 or so games atm.
Forget Harrods if we're shopping at Poundland !!!

Got better in kenwyne and macheda when fully fit.Plus we just got watt in on loan with saadi coming back in January why do we need another unproven striker when we're supposed to be 'cost cutting'?
Tue Dec 01, 2015 3:47 pm

we can then attract better players

ASAP

There's no way either of the following:
A) He is better than the strikers we already loaned out/released on a free
B) He is better than what we currently have
Would end up being another waste of money by a clueless manager.

We don't need him i think this is all just lazy reporting.
