"The Real Reason"

The real reason Cardiff City spent nearly £3m on agents fees last season... and why there's still £5m left to pay!

WalesOnline understands 80 per cent of the figure does not relate to payments during Russell Slade's reign

The bulk of Cardiff City's near-£3m spend on agents' fees over the course of the last two transfer windows relates to historic payments, WalesOnline understands.

The £2.8m figure - the highest among Football league clubs - was revealed on Monday but caused bafflement in some quarters given the Bluebirds have significantly reined in spending on transfers under boss Russell Slade during that period.

It is now understood that 80% of the figure is from deals that were concluded as the Bluebirds prepared for life in the Premier League.

It is believed the club had delayed the payments as part of the fallout from Malky Mackay's departure but finally had to settle them during the period between October 1 last year and September 30 this.

There is also £5m more in payments to agents due from those deals left to resolve, it is understood.

Under new boss Russell Slade, the club has sought to spend less on transfers and fees with a minimal outlay this summer when Sammy Ameobi came in on loan and Semi Ajayi (free), Gabriel Tamas (unattached) and Idriss Saadi (undisclosed) all also signed.

While six players also came in during the January window preceding that, Eoin Doyle represented the club's biggest deal - he signed from Chesterfield for £750,000.

Scott Malone, Alex Revell, Lee Peltier, Stuart O'Keefe, Eoin Doyle and Matthew Kennedy were also signed in that window.

Slade has previously revealed the club is no longer 'shopping at Harrods' when it comes to transfers and slashed £12m from the wage bill with changes to his squad earlier this year.

Tbh all where to blame, Tan for not having a proper team in place for the transfers (which he has now amended and learnt from) and then Malky/Moody for indentifying the wrong players and paying to much for them

I do agree, No manager should be allowed/left to do what he wants regarding massive fees etc, but Simon Lim, stated he was over seeing everything on Tans behalf.

Tan has employed 6 CEO'S and they should be in control of the managers spending.

After Tan sort of stating Malky cost him fortunes, he then employed Ole

Lets really really hope, this does not happen again as in Tans 5 years, the debt has been beyond a madness.

I just can't believe how gullible Tan has been through all this considering his business acumen.

I believe you have hit it on the head there by saying Tan did not have a proper team in place. Then again he had a manager in place that has got his investment promoted to the premier. So why would he think he needed a team in place?

So Tan has employed 6 CEO's so surely he as realised the mistakes.

The quicker this comes into the open the quicker we can move on.

Wez, they were accused of much more than that and you know that.

And then Tan employs Ole and does it all again

Malky made some bad signings as well as many good ones, thankfully we are still getting Malays Prem money :ayatollah:

Had Malky not spunked so much on transfers and been silly enough to sene stupid emails/texts through a works phone/computer we would have had a better chance staying up then after he was sacked. But its all If's and buts as we'll never know hwat could have been

Defe

I think Ole was Dalmans choice if I remember right that should answer why he has taken such a back seat since his departure :bluescarf:

Also answers why Tan has cut back so much, losing money on old deals that could have gone towards new players :bluescarf:

As for having a go at RS over it?

I have not, it still does not deflect that he is out of his depth and tactics wise is 30 yrs behind the times Simples :sladeout:

Hit the nail on the head there Ian. He trusted Malky implicitly. Much to his and our cost.
