' TONY WATT/A BIG CALL '
By Nathan Blake

Against Burnley, Slade made a big call in bringing in Tony Watt up-front after he had just arrived on-loan from Charlton and that call was rewarded with a really promising showing from the young striker.
Obviously you give Watt a run of games now.

He’s a young lad and nine times out of 10 these guys are pumped and they will hit the ground running and that was the case here.
Watt needs to get his head down now and focus which is often the problem I find with players just starting out.
No offence, but they get the break, they get in the first team and it goes to their heads.

They think they have done it, they haven’t, they have taken the first step, nothing more.
Things have changed, back in my day you were out on the town on a Saturday night, you were encouraged to do it, you can’t do that any more.
I’m not suggesting Watt is like that, but he just needs to get his head down at Cardiff and work like hell, that is how you make it in the game. There’s no other route to success. He needs to get consistency, he’s had the buzz of that first Cardiff game now and done well, now that needs to be the norm from him over the next seven or eight games.
He needs to keep the standards up and start finding the net.

Ideally you are getting a goal a game, a goal every other game, you want that expectation on you. You get in the goal-scoring routine. Watt can do it, he can reflect on a good performance, as can the Cardiff side as a whole against Burnley.
Now they need to follow that up at Bolton on Saturday.
It gives me no pleasure to say it, Bolton are a former club of mine, but they are not in a good place right now, they are bottom of the table and in turmoil in truth.
Cardiff need to take advantage of that situation. They must be ambitious in Lancashire.
It’s no good getting a ‘good’ point there, they need the three, they have to be ruthless.
All the big sides in the division, all the real contenders, will beat Bolton right now and Cardiff must make sure they are among the teams that do that.
If they keep up the standards they showed against Burnley, Cardiff can get the three points on Saturday.
What they must not do now is take their foot off the gas.
