442 - But so few goals in open play

Sat Nov 28, 2015 6:13 pm

Malky played with only one striker most of the time, but we were solid. What are we gaining playing 2 up front.

I really don't get Noone on he wrong wing in a 442 when the two strikers want decent crosses in, especially when one of them is top class header of the ball.

nothing wrong with 442 its how you play that matters and noone doesnt lend himself to it as doesnt cross ball sufficiently well to make it work, with jones in middle waiting for ball that never arrives!! :(

100% agree Alan. Nothing wrong with 442

Ralls owned the middle yesterday but with our strike force and lack of wingers we are knackered. Noone & Ameobi are wide forwards best suited to a 433.

Jones is so immobile, he needs players closer to him, but the central midfield are much deeper because the system doesn't allow for a holding player. He needs any modern system that wants the striker to hold the two centre halfs in like a 4231.

Whitts in his old natural position looks like his legs have gone, he was never an athlete, but technically a premier league player.Look at the highlights and any decent through ball was played by him, to wring the last benefits of Whitts for the remaining 18 month of his contract he needs to be the holding player pushing Ralls & Gunnar further foward in either a 433 or 4141 (Malky)

Mason may not good enough, so it doesn't matter what formation, but the quick one in a big/ little man combo is a sick joke which has ruined Joe, maybe irreconcilably.

Slade isn't this incompetent fool many portrait him as he is just an old fashioned man, playing an old fashioned system with a squad of players he inherited. He doesn't stray beyond his knowledge.....
