" Kenwyne Jones to Leave? "

Fri Nov 27, 2015 10:45 am

Cardiff City are set to face a fight to hold onto one of their biggest-name players, with striker Kenwyne Jones out of contract at the capital club next summer.

The 31-year-old is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal with the Bluebirds and, with the January transfer window looming, Russell Slade has to either get his man to ink a new deal, sell him in January or run the risk of seeing the marksman walk away for free from the Welsh capital come the close season.

Jones joined Cardiff from Stoke in January 2014 in a deal that saw Peter Odemwingie move in the other direction.

He was Cardiff’s top scorer last season despite spending the final six weeks of the season on loan at Bournemouth, helping them win promotion to the Premier League

Sheff Wednesday again have shown interest, but it's Jones wages that are the stumbling block.

Russell Slade wants to keep Kenwyne Jones

Cardiff City manager Russell Slade has given a clear indication that he is determined to tie star striker Kenwyne Jones down to a new contract at the club.

The 31-year-old striker’s current contract in the welsh capital ends next summer and he is yet to put pen paper on a new one.

Since arriving from Stoke in January 2014, Jones has proved an integral part of the Bluebirds side. He was th

He will go somewhere else for the money if we don't pay him what he is on now :ayatollah:

I agree total waste of money, if he had the energy of Revell then what a player he could be but that's the case all over football :ayatollah:

Injured a bit too much for what we are paying him. If we get a good deal in January we should sell.

Should also be noted that there are only a few players as good as him in our squad and one is the keeper!

Agree he's a luxury we cannot afford especially way Slade sets us up! Maybe the new player will mean change attitude by slade along with french sicknote when he returns!

Hope so at least Saadi did more and looked better in the time we saw him than most of the season :sladeout:

A decent impact player as he proved on loan at Bournemouth last year.

But on his rumoured £40 K a week wages I would expect a lot more...if we get an offer for him in January he will be off

If kj and Marshall go i think thats our season over. Unless saadi comes back firing them in for us i think We're in for another mid table one finish

Funny that, I mentioned that Jones would be likely to leave in another thread yesterday and got totally slated. Lol :) Never mind, I won't take it seriously.

If Saadi can recover and Watt can do a job and stay with us (which we should know by January) then we may not need to keep Jones on his excessive wages anyway.

fans can't see his contribution the guys one of the best target man in the league  get him in a decent set up under decent management he would bang them in!

Yeah, I agree that Jones is a great target man. But is he worth £40k a week? I don't think he is. Slade doesn't get the best out of him, but I think that the same can be said for the rest of the squad.

Jones doesn't really help himself either with his lazy, arrogant demeanour. I don't know if he thinks that he is too good for Cardiff or its just his personality. But I think most of us would prefer a player on more sensible wages and who gives his all for the team (although not Revell though :))

His job is not to bang them in though, it to allow the others to bang them in. The guy is not set up for a 442 like a Peter Thorne and Earnie and Slade just doesn't see that.

He'll go in January, we are never going to pay him half as much next year and his agent has to secure at least a 2.5 year deal for him.

I give up with Slades logic, apart from Ralls & Pilkington none of our players don't fit into a standard 442. Malky (no wingers) or Ole (never really sure what he did) didn't leave him the squad to play it.

There are better striker s available for 37 k a week if it's reduced terms keep him if not sell him in January as long as we get a replacement in

Incredibly lazy, no pace and very little mobility. Quite happy if we can flog him in January and bring in someone like Fraizer....or, the man himself.

unbeatable in the air real threat from set pieces and with a pacey striker hopefully gonna get onto his quality flick ons

Some of our fans are idiots.

He's easily our best striker.

It's the same who will be saying "should have kept Jones" if he goes.

I expect him to sign a new contract.

Re: " Kenwyne Jones to Leave? "

Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:11 pm

Clearly our best striker.

Just a shame he only does it when he is due a contract.

As he was utter shit for months.

Re: " Kenwyne Jones to Leave? "

Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:48 pm

He's a quality target man, good at set pieces, flick ons and defending. As long as its with his head and generally during the transfer window. He can't shoot, tackle, run or basically use his feet. I expect much more from a £40k a week striker. There is a lot better out there and for less.

To say that he is our best striker isn't really saying much is it. The others are either injured and/or sh@t.

Re: " Kenwyne Jones to Leave? "

Fri Nov 27, 2015 5:00 pm

Would people buy him in January? I pretty much doubt it as they can sign him for free as a bosman pre agree 6 months before his contract is due to run out.

Re: " Kenwyne Jones to Leave? "

Fri Nov 27, 2015 5:18 pm

I think he is going in Jan or the summer.

Re: " Kenwyne Jones to Leave? "

Can be a decent striker, but we are going to have to make something like £8m of cuts in salaries for next season due to the drop in out parachute payments. We can save 1/4 of that by letting KJ leave.

Pity, as I'd love to keep him, but only if on a fraction of the money.

Kiss , Tamas and Velikonja will also leave , but I'd like to keep Turner.

He is injured too much, but is quality. Once again though, he'd be facing a pay cut to stay

It's also time to consider those whose contracts end in 2017.

Le Fondre- will be sold if he does OK at Wolves
Revell- ditto with Wigan
Macheda, O'Keefe, Harris-probably stay, but as it stands not deserving of a new contract
KD- would like to see him stay longer, but very expensive so will probably leave
Whittingham- hard to say. Might stay on a lower wage.
Adeyemi- will probably go
Pilkington- very good player, but injured a lot and will be on high wages. Likely to leave
Malone and Connolly- club should try to keep these 2
Manga- we should try to keep him, but can we afford it. Maybe cash in, but he'll need games for us to get value.
Ajeyi- too early to tell
Fabio- try to keep him, but will he want to stay ?
Moore- as with Fabio, unless Marshall goes he'll be 2 nd choice.

These guys make up a big chunk of our first team. It's going to be an interesting 12-18 months
