Despite dwindling home crowds and concerns over a lack of atmosphere, Cardiff City have proved they hold their own in attracting a TV audience when they appear live on Sky Sports.
19/11/15
City have appeared on Sky three times this season, attracting an average of 249,000 viewers, which is higher than the average viewing figure for Championship games this season of 209,800.
Cardiff's next live televised game is against Birmingham on December 18, and with proof that Cardiff attracts a higher than average audience, hopefully there will be more games screened in the new year.
Leeds feature four times in the top 10 of audiences of Championship matches, so it can be expected that the match on Tuesday, March 8 will be screened on Sky.
Cardiff's match away to QPR on Saturday, August 15 was live on Sky Sports 5. The early evening match saw a stunning late Scott Malone goal level the score at two goals apiece and sent City back to Cardiff with a point. The match was watched by 235,000 viewiers, according to figures from BARB, Broadcast Audience Research Board.
Cardiff were on again a week later in another Saturday evening kick-off, this time at home to Wolverhampton. The match on August 22, screened on Sky Sports 1, saw a rise in viewing figures from the previous week with 237,000 tuning in.
The third Cardiff match to be televised saw the highest figure for the club. The Severnside derby, Cardiff v Bristol City, screened on Sky Sports 1 on Monday, October 26, attracted 275,000 viewers. While the figures were good, a dire game ended 0-0. This audience, however, saw Cardiff enter the top 10 of highest figures for Championship matches on TV so far this season.

Pubs and clubs have to pay a different premium package to Sky that`s why you always see the outline of a white pint glass in the corner. They guesstimate that everyone in the pubs are watching which is also added to guesstimate on households, I suppose if its same rules for all then its good news for the stay away fans and good reflection of the potential fan base we do have, if we were looking half decent next time we are televised and remain around the play off zone maybe a few will return?

So on the other side the figures given could be complete bollox then if they are guesstimating it

It`s all guess work, statisticians get paid to guess how many people are watching, going on the only true statics of how many pubs and homes are watching over the 90 mins which sky can provide them with.

Upsets me of how much of a footballing force we could be.
Man City home was one of the best atmospheres in the CCS I've been to, so the 'fans' are there. Just on 'standby'.
The potential of the club is massive. We could be huge. Sadly, the football on the pitch isn't good enough to attract more fans.
