Least Favourite Sport on TV

Wed Nov 18, 2015 4:03 pm

My wife just got new broadband provider, as a surprise I got a sky sports package. Although secretly grateful, i've done without sky for over a decade!

I just wanted to make a few observations about the sports I haven't watched for ages. The cricket has been on, ENG vs Pak, IND vs SA. I even watched Sri Lanka vs WI on Eurosport! I have to say I have enjoyed watching cricket again, I guess Sky is the cricket broadcaster as haven't seen a cricket game on tv for years.

Darts, errr for a bit I can watch, seems good fun and the standard of the players is impressive

Now, I am hoping tennis is the forum's least favourite. I flicked through the sky schedule the other day, it had Jamie Murray, yes Jamie Murray ffs. A complete non-entity in sporting success. Who in god's name watches doubles. If I had to describe the word 'boring' to a foreigner learning English, I would ask them if they know the game doubles tennis

As I write this, I watched Murray lose to Nadal, entertainment value 1/10. Bland sportsmen thanking the crowd for turning up and not falling asleep I would guess.

Cricket is not a sport to stream, just wouldn't, football i've streamed for years, would I give up sky subscription to miss out on cricket? up to the missus, i'm easy going

In order

- Cricket
- Rugby
- Tennis
- Darts
- Football

Football is the only sport I have time for, but I do occasionally watch a bit of darts and F1 if you consider either of them sports.

I actually like playing tennis, without being big-headed, I found playing it easy when I was young and got to the final of a tennis tournament for my age group and the year above at school but lost. So i guess that made me the second best at my school, oh yeah! Image

just doesn't work for me to watch and be excited about.

I voted Tennis, it just bores the shit out of me. With Cricket, you got the excitement of 20/20 and the total and utter boredom of the five day game, because of one day and 20/20, I never voted Cricket.

while i'm in the mood for storytelling, I had a bad start with cricket

I grew up in a nice middle class area in Cwmbran, so some of the boys in my street preferred cricket than the games I played (football, Rugby). So I used to go up the nets and bat, bowl and I was getting alright at it but never played cricket for a team.

Anyways, (this story still haunts me lol) I got asked to play cricket by a boy in my street for his team as they were short of players. I said yes. We fielded first, I just stood around for hours watching them bowl and bat from a distance. I didn't have the confidence to ask them if I could bowl, but from what was in store for me, I am glad I didn't as I am very sure of the answer to that request.

It was time to bat, I asked my 'mate' where i'm batting, he said somewhere down the order as it's my first game. I said sure (gutted) It came to the end of the innings and my 'mate' put another batsmen ahead of me, turns out he was not part of their team either, he was the useless one from the other team as they had extra players. My mind can't remember the true staus of that game as it didn't interest me that much, but the fact was.

I was asked to play for the team
Didn't Bowl
Didn't Bat
Other players my 'mate' didn't know got to bat and I didn't

One week later, my 'mate' had a nerve to ask if I could 'play' for them the following week! My answer was mocking, you know the little smirk/laugh with the word 'no' attached at the end.

Needless to say this event traumatised me and it took me along time to trust cricket ever again.

All repressed nightmarish sporting experiences now off my chest, posters, don't have nightmares about yours :thumbright: :laughing6:

20/20 is brilliant. I agree about test cricket but there is something relaxing about it. You normally doze off and and the time you wake up the scoreboard might of gone up by 30-50 runs

Darts isn't a sport, it's a pub game.

And don't tell me 'its a good night out and good atmosphere'... A room full of fat, beer swilling blokes singing the same shit song over and over doesn't sound like my kind of night out.

 That's the one mate. The one that says if you sing this your a dry dick. I cringe almost as bad as when I saw that recent documentary on hooligans and that big ugly twit from spurs was trying to shadow box. In fact he'd fit in perfectly down the front row of a darts event with his tits wobbling around as he jumps up and down singing "duh duh duh du duuuuuuhhhh"

your making me re-evaluate naming tennis my least favourite! Not exactly the type of night I would get into either. Any posters want to defend darts? Rugby currently polled as least favourite, football & rugby fans just don't get on :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :bluebird:

Darts is f*cking great both to play and watch.

Least Favorite sport to watch for me has to be test cricket it's utter shite how can you play a game for three days then call it a draw when it starts raining utter crap.

Snooker.

Cricket is great when you follow it throughout the five days, waiting for a final result.

Makes working interesting as its on during the day mainly and its on the radio.

I rarely bother with t20s. I find those boring!.
