Cardiff City boss Russell Slade insists striker Alex Revell has been sent out on loan to ‘boost his confidence.’
Last season he managed two goals in 17 games for new boss Slade.
“It’s no secret he’s been struggling to score goals for us this season at this level,” said Slade.
Revell has gone to Wigan until January 23 and made his League One debut for the Latics on Saturday as they won 2-0 at Rochdale.
Revell played the entire 90 minutes, but could not find a goal to mark his first appearance.
The man who signed him from Rotherham back in January and who has now sent him out on loan, Slade himself, said he hoped Revell would soon start to find the net for Wigan and keep scoring regularly
Slade admitted the 32-year-old frontman had ‘struggled’ to find the net for the Bluebirds and now needed a confidence boost at League One level.
Since arriving in the Welsh capital, goals have indeed proved hard to come by for Cambridge-born Revell.
In the second-half of last season he managed two goals in 17 games for new boss Slade.
This campaign the Cardiff boss showed a lot of faith in Revell, making him his first choice up-front alongside Joe Mason as Kenwyne Jones searched for match fitness early on.
Revell featured in nine Championship matches, but found goal-scoring opportunities hard to come by as he failed to find the net. His only goal so far for Cardiff this term came in the Capital One Cup defeat at MK Dons.
Now Slade believes, Revell’s time with the Latics can only be good for him.
“It’s no secret he’s been struggling to score goals for us this season at this level,” said Slade.
“Wigan are a good club and I think during his time there Alex will be able to boost his confidence levels. At that level we should see his confidence come back a bit.
“He’s there until January and then we can see where things are when the loan comes to an end. But I’m convinced it is the right move for him right now.”

In other words he will find his level in league one.

The reason he is struggling to score at this level Russell Slade is that he's not good enough at this level

He won't do much in league 1, I reckon he's league 2 at best.
He's commited but not a free scoring striker, i'd pick Nobby Holder over him anyday of the week

Let's hope Slade also wakes up to fact,Mason is out of his depth in the Championship as well

It's not just the scoring, he takes longer than other players to decide what he's going to. Great in the air but sadly that's it, give his all but won't play for us again.

Hope so he is lower league standard.

Should never have been signed in the first place.

He left because he's just not good enough for this level. Saying that, when we beat Brentford 2-1 with 9 men, he scored an excellent goal and his work rate made all the difference, but he hasn't done it often enough.
