Campbell Says NO to Cardiff.

Cardiff City tried to bring striker Fraizer Campbell back to the Welsh capital in the summer, WalesOnline can reveal.

The hierarchy at the Bluebirds approached Campbell’s current club Crystal Palace in the close season looking to sign the frontman on a season-long loan, but their efforts were rebuffed with Campbell himself apparently not keen on a move back to the Championship and the club he left for the Eagles back in July 2014.

Manager Russell Slade believed Campbell could be the man to lead his front-line but lost out on the 28-year-old. The Bluebirds did sign Sammy Ameobi on loan for the campaign from Newcastle.

Slade is currently on the lookout for another striker before the loan window closes on November 25 to add to his options, but it is understood he will not be making another return to bring Campbell back, but has set his sights elsewhere

Campbell proved himself a real fans’ favourite during his 18 months at Cardiff. He was signed by then-Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay in January 2013 from Sunderland for £650,000 and had am immediate impact, scoring the winner on his debut at Leeds and scoring seven times in 12 outings as Cardiff went up to the Premier League as champions.

In Cardiff’s ultimately disappointing season in the top flight, Campbell managed seven league goals in 37 top-flight outings before making the switch to Palace following the Bluebirds’ relegation.

In his first season in South London he scored four goals in 29 Premier League games, but has found himself marginalised under Eagles boss Alan Pardew this campaign. Campbell, who has one England cap, has started just one league game for Palace this term and come off the bench three times. His solitary goal came in a Capital One Cup win over Charlton.

He quite often does not even make the bench under Pardew and has been consistently linked with a loan move away from the club.

If Slade and Cardiff had got their way that would have been with the Bluebirds this season, but the player himself apparently wanted to remain at Selhurst Park and fight for his place instead.

Campbell may well go out on loan, but it seems despite the best efforts of the Bluebirds he will not be making a return to the Welsh capital any time soon.

Why would he come to this miserable place.....

Owner lost interest, fans lost interested, manager who'll be gone at the end of the season

Can't blame him.

Says it all when we can't get a player who wants to play regularly.

The report is backdated to August and quite rightly at that stage Campbell may well have thought that his chances might improve at Palace should other players get injured lose form or get suspended.

That hasn't happened so he MAY reconsider in January?
