WalesOnline can reveal the loan deal could run until January if it gets the green light

Ben Turner is set to leave on loan

Cardiff City defender Ben Turner has requested a loan move as he looks to prove his fitness and earn a new deal at the Bluebirds.

WalesOnline can reveal the player suggested the switch to manager Russell Slade and is now set to leave on a short-term basis.

Reports emerged last night the 27-year-old is poised to join former club Coventry , but we understand Barnsley are also keen to take the centre-half if he is to depart the Welsh capital.

Turner has seen his season decimated by an ankle injury that has required surgery and is yet to feature at all for Bluebirds’ boss Slade this term.

He has seen a return to action in Development games recently and is set for at least another hour of action tomorrow when the Bluebirds’ development side entertain West Brom.

Ben Turner could join Coventry or Barnsley

But the feeling within the club is that development games can only go so far when it comes to gauging whether Turner’s injury concerns are finally behind him.

It is understood Turner has told Slade he would like the chance to go out on leave and prove he is now fit and ready to battle for his place in the Cardiff starting XI and earn a new contract when his current deal ends in the summer.

The thought within the Cardiff camp is if the loan move is green-lighted it would initially be for just a month with a view to perhaps extending it to the new year with a 24-hour recall clause in place.

How is it?

Be honest Paul, you and several others will constantly moan about the tiniest things on here - such as the title of a thread. Is it really that much of a big deal to you?

We never change what posters are saying in any topic.

Paulh, Carl, accidently got tagged in the pms telling the group what to do to the forum and for 7 days and nights, all this forum had was slaggings off, swearing, abuse etc etc. I wont let those days start up again.

I love good debates/different opinions, no need for continual sarcasm or belittling of other posters etc etc

You do know who I am on about and I dont mean you on all the above. :ayatollah:

Can we now just talk football again please :thumbright: :thumbright:

Warm welcome assured from Coventry City fans if Ben Turner returns home

Barnsley also in for the Sky Blues target but why would he opt for basement battle over top of the table clash?

It’s surely a given that any Coventry City fan would welcome Ben Turner back to the Ricoh Arena with open arms.

His contorted facial expression and muscle-clenching goal celebration when he scored the winner for the Sky Blues against Derby in 2010 speaks volumes for the type of character the 27-year-old possesses.

He’s what Tony Mowbray would call a warrior, a player who will run through brick walls for the cause, heading and kicking everything that comes his way. In short, the perfect replacement for Reda Johnson.

He can play a bit, too, and and what he’s got in abundance, of course, is a close affinity with the club where he started out and made his name, earning a move to a better placed Championship club at the time of his £750,000 sale to Cardiff City and helping them gain promotion.

He played 31 games in the Premier League the season before last and should, by my reckoning, stand out head and shoulders in League One.

Reports from Wales suggest the Sky Blues have a rival for his short-term services with struggling Barnsley understood to be keen, or should that be desperate, to take him to Oakwell.

But why would he? With all due respect, why would he opt to join a side that have slumped to second from bottom of the third tier with eight consecutive league defeats unless, of course, he likes his challenges on the Mission Impossible side?

The cards are stacked in Coventry’s favour.

Firstly, he loves the club. It’s where he grew up, graduated from the Academy and got his break in first team football.
