The war in Syria

Sun Nov 15, 2015 7:48 pm

I've just educated myself a bit on what's going on and I think from everything I've read and what people have told me I kind of understand the whole situation,

There's a civil war going on in Syria between assads army (the family and army that rule Syria) and the Rebels (Isis and other terrorist organisations) America arents fans of Assad so have created Isis to fight their battle as they can't send in their own troops because Russia support Assad this creating ww3 if America declare war on Assad ! So to save this from happening they've created a force strong enough and feared enough to destroy Assads family this controlling Syria and the oil surrounding Syria - hence why America never seem to be able to destroy Isis yet Russia killed thousands of soldiers off already, does any one think there's any truth in that or is it complete bollux ?

About right.

Why should America risk its own troops to get rid of Assad?

I've found this really interesting article that kind of explains what has happened in the Middle East. It compares the vacuum created after the Iraq war to that left in Cambodia after the Vietnam war. For Pol Pot and Khmer Rouge read Isis. Both medievalist, murdering sects created as a direct result of American foreign policy and for Iraq you can say American and British foreign policy.

One of the conspiracy theories is that America created ISIS. I'd be shocked if that was true though especially as they are now bombing shit out of them.

Wow there some bollux posted on here, need to educate yourselves a bit more

Re: The war in Syria

This isn't true.
The Free Syrian Army is anti ISIS.

Some factions have very strict Muslim rules, but ISIS have taken advantage of the war between Assad and The Free Syrian Army, to move in and control large areas.

It's complicated and a real mess for their people who are often well educated professional people.

I read a book about it in the summer, it's very sad.

The Syrian conflict is called a proxy war.

It's between USA and the Russians gaining influence in the middle east. So the yanks fund arm and train some guys, most of whom will go on to join alqaeda or Daesh. Rest will fight assad.

And you obviously know how Russia are playing a part in the war by using direct military action.

But again it's yet another proxy war.

Welcome to Cold War 2.0 with even deadlier weapons!

This thing will get out of control. It will get out of control, and we will be lucky to live through it.

I don't know what is the biggest load of bollox, the OP or the people who think they know all about it after reading some on-line junk. You can study middle east politics to degree level and not know it all.

No one really knows what is going on, but all i can say is that I feel sorry for the innocent victims in all of this, especially the children, no child deserves to die a painful and inhumane death which is what is happening in the middle east day in day out.

It's like the Medevil times all over, I cannot fathom it being 2015.

There is nothing wrong with posters trying to make sense of the Syrian War. Clearly nobody is claiming they know exactly what the agenda is of the militias and Nation states.

From What I've read (how true who knows) the mess started in Syria when demonstrators against the Assad regime were articles by Assad troops, this then started a massive civil war between Assad regime and those rebels fighting against the regime, ISIS have then used that situation to their advantage by infiltrating the north of Syria and now control large areas in that part of Syria, as to the origins of ISIS that I couldn't tell you having read multiple theories behind it some conspiracy theories would lead us to believe the Americans created them other theories would suggest that they span from the likes of al queda since Osama was killed and from Iran since saddam killed and generally just hate the west and everything we stand for and have just used the Syrian situation to there advantage

But like I said I've read loads on how the Syrian conflict started and I don't know what to believe myself and as for ISIS there's a million theories floating around

Spot on

All these conspiracy theories and self blaming in the "West"
Its like the old style priests who used to beat themselves as some kind of punishment for their perceived sins. It's not all our fault.
They have been killing each other for centuries and even if the civilised world stayed away it would continue.

I think the Syrian war started as a pro democracy rebellion against the Assad regime and part of the wider Arab Spring but has now surpassed into a proxy war pitting Shiite Iran against Sunni Saudi Arabia?

Why are Russia seen as our enemy now then ? Shouldn't we try and get on with them ? Or are we just America s lapdog and America just want to be too dog ?

The latter mate. I don't like the Russian government and obviously we should take them with caution but we are Americas lapdog unfortunately. This country has been made too weak to be a power anymore.

Saudi Arabia Vs Iran

Both countries are arming and funding rival rebel groups right across the middle east. They really are the crux of the problem but sadly we are best friends with the Saudis and warming to the Iranians.

Hmmm I wonder why we and America are best friends with Saudi Arabia could it be that our oil is running out fast and they have it by the bucket load :thumbright:

Of course its mainly the Saudis and Iranians seeking to become the local superpower. But you it is at the same time another cold war type situation between the West (mainly the yanks) vs the ruskies. We want assad out so we can install our own leader, ruskies want assad in.
