' SIGN BALE OVER RONALDO '

14/11/15

Manchester United should forget about signing Cristiano Ronaldo and go for Gareth Bale instead, according to Paul Merson.

Speaking in his column in the Daily Star, he said: “There has been lots of talk this week about Ronaldo ending up back at Old Trafford because he’s unhappy at Real Madrid and angling for a move.

“But I don’t think it would work for him or United. Ronaldo would not fit in at United under Louis van Gaal. I don’t think he’d suit them.

“I’d take Bale over Ronaldo any day. If you’re giving one of them a four-year contract, you’d get far more out of Bale over four years,” Merson added.

“However good he thinks he is, Ronaldo is not going to be scoring 30 goals a season and terrorising defences when he’s 34. But it’s not just that. Bale is a team player. He’d fit in under Van Gaal. He works harder and he’s willing to work back for the team.”

I would get Bale over the fact that he's got years left in him yet.

Bales a better bet but Ronaldo would be cheaper. And I disagree he wouldn't fit in, he's still doing it at the top level and has years left in him

Would Bale suit/prosper in LVG's team and style of play? :?

Personally, I think not! ;)

Stay in the sun, Gareth. You know it makes sense! LOL :laughing6:

Ronaldo is not going to be scoring 30 goals a season and terrorising defences when he’s 34.

I bet he will, or at minimum he will still contribute to at least 30 goals by either scoring himself or assisting players. What people like Merson forget is this man is an absolute machine who pushes himself to the brink to achieve greatness. Why would he just stop doing that at 34? He is going to continue to push himself to be the best. This is what separates players like him from most of the rest, because he lives football and he's as enthusiastic about it as the little kid who's got his first football and idolises the current greats. As usual, another pundit talking complete garbage, and it'll probably come back to bite him. I even believe Ronaldo will have more in him at a later age than Messi purely because of his physical strength and presence that he can utilise to tweak his game slightly.

Agree. Merson wasn't able to at 34 but he was an alcoholic who are shit. Ronaldo is a machine much like Giggs who looked after himself. I bet United got plenty out of Giggs age 30 onwards and Ronaldi is better than Giggs.

If he was to join any club in England again I think it would be Spurs.

Can't see Bale returning to the Premier League anytime soon.

He's at the pinnacle of world football. :thumbright:
