' Would you have preferred Ninian Park.. '

Would you have preferred the club to have given ninian Park a face lift instead of moving to the ccs?...

Every time I see videos or pictures of that place I'm gutted it's gone.

I'd rather we just added extra tiers around the ground, given it a complete face lift and carried the spirit of cardiff city into the modern era.

Absolutely not. The only way to improve Ninian Park would have been to knock it down and completely rebuild it, and it would have been replaced with the same stadium we have now but across the road, (and people wouldn't have liked that either).

We needed to move the club into the 21st century, not hark back to the bad old days of the 70s and 80s.

Ninian park will remain in my heart till the day i die--my first game was in 1968 against QPR, a lot has been made of why the fans in my age group dont go in the numbers they do, till 3 years ago i had been a season ticket holder for many years and you could count on one hand the number of aways i missed, everyone blames the red, but in my heart a lot of my love died when Ninian closed im sure a lot of fans my age will agree
Progress it is called and a super stadium we have. i only go to away games now and i see a new generation of our supporters who are as passionate as we were but it is so sad to think the next generation will no nothing of 'our home' Ninian Park where our history was made. when i walked into sloper road and looked left my heart missed a beat with exitement going to ninian park i felt i belonged , with the new super stadium i walked into Sloper Road looked to the right and just felt i should be there, a bit of my heart died for cardiff city the day the day i saw yhe bulldozers move in,

A big yes from me,Block A bouncing,Grangend bouncing, the opposition shitting themselves between the both of us.The concrete bowl across the road is everything I hate about football, will never be the same again.

Brilliant days but things move on and for us to progress we had to move

No way. You have to move with the times and as good as NP was in its day, it needed more than a facelift!

My heart says yes but logistic and financial reasons meant there was never a cats chance in hell it would ever happen.

No....move on

No way. The old stadium had reached the end of its life and would have needed to be completely knocked down and rebuilt and would have ended up looking like the new stadium but shoe-horned into a really tight space.
I went there in the early sixties as a kid for my first game and was there for all the big games Real Madrid, Hamburg and Leeds so got lots of good memories. Also did the stadium tour when we finished there and couldn't believe how poor the changing, boardroom and offices were but finished the day having my photo taken with the legend that was Brian Clark. Lets move on lads

Yes. I like the old traditional grounds. The history and unique fixtures such as the terraces and old style floodlights.

The new stadium is void of any character

We were not the first and won't be the last,it's just football moving on.I remember many grounds I have been to which have gone eg
Elm Park -Reading
Baseball -Derby
Middlesbrough -Ayresome Park.
Sunderland -Roker Park
Bolton-Burnsen Park
Bristol Rovers-Eastville.
Man City-Maine Rd
Etc etc etc.

The old stadium at the time of demolition, wasn't the same stadium that it had been in the 1960s, it had changed a lot, so which parts of the old stadium are you referring to ?

the Grandstand had been extended to make Blocks A,B, E and F.
The bob bank now had seats, and the lower grandstand was originally all standing,
the Canton Stand was modified
and most of all the Grange End was twice the size and the Home End.

So where do you start the nostalgic view ?

It is not easy and things do move on. :bluescarf:

Loved Ninian Park but it was very tired, the atmosphere had long gone before we moved.

I think a lot of people look back at Ninian Park with selective memories and through rose tinted glasses.

I spent far more years supporting the team at Ninian Park than I have at the CCS and have some very fond memories of the place. My dad even had his ashes buried there , that`s how much it meant to us as a family. But long before the club moved out of there it had become a sh*thole , not fit for purpose.

It was not possible to give it a "facelift" and stay there or add extra tiers. It would have had to have been completely demolished and rebuilt on what would have been too small a site with a very limited capacity due to access and egress problems. What Ninian Park did due for the club , as its "swansong" in a way, was to help fund (with the Council`s help by allowing the £7m it raised from the sale to Redrow to go towards build costs) a new stadium with plenty of capacity , parking etc. with modern facilities and the ability to grow with the club if it were to be successful.

If we had of played at Ninian Park in the premier we would have stayed up. True a half empty NP wasn't great. However a full NP was a f*cking evil atmosphere. I feel lucky to have gone to all those old scary football grounds.

Yes but it wouldn't be possible unfortunately.

Not even up for debate with me. It's a YES I'd trade the soul less ccs for one more season at ninian park then give up football for good as I'd know where it was going then ( happy clappy moaning football fans who think there at the cinema in a lifeless ground) but that's modern football :bluescarf:

It's hard to let go and it's true a part of a lot of us died but we had to move forward and fans make an atmosphere, we have all felt it at Wales games and limited city games at the ccs have created high noise levels. Were having a bad period. Dig in

No. The facilities we have now are so much better for everyone.
