CHELSEA ‘WANT DROGBA BACK’

Chelsea players want Didier Drogba to return to the club for a third spell, according to The Sun.

Champions Chelsea sit 16th in the Premier League under Jose Mourinho, with John Terry the only player remaining from their title-winning side when Drogba first joined the club in 2004.

The Ivorian striker has just completed his first competitive season with MLS side Montreal Impact, and is thought to be free until January.

TOON ‘BRACED FOR PEREZ BID’

Manchester United are interested in signing Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez and could bid for the Spaniard in January, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Newcastle are also braced for a fresh January move from Tottenham for Perez, according to The Sun.

Perez scored the winner for Newcastle in the 1-0 victory at Bournemouth on Saturday, and has 10 goals in 49 appearances in total for Steve McClaren’s side.

The 22-year-old Spaniard joined Newcastle from Tenerife in the summer of 2014.

FOUR WINGERS ON UNITED LIST?

Lazio’s Felipe Anderson, Southampton’s Sadio Mane, Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez and Ajax’s Anwar El Ghazi are all on Louis van Gaal’s January shopping list at Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail.

Van Gaal admitted after the 2-0 win over West Brom on Saturday that the side needed pace on the wings as they look to form a Premier League title challenge.

"I have said already in my first year many times we need speed and creativity on the wings," the Dutchman said.

CHERRIES 'EYEING AUSTIN'

Bournemouth are targeting a January move for QPR striker Charlie Austin after Chicago-based financer Matt Hulsizer bought 25 per cent of Maxim Demin's shares in the club.

Austin's contract runs out in the summer, but with Bournemouth plummeting down the Premier League, a January spending spree could be in order.

Austin, 26, has scored seven goals in 12 appearances for the Championship side this season.

ANGEL OF THE NORTH?

So, the big story on the back of the Daily Mirror this morning links West Ham United striker Andy Carroll with a move to former club Newcastle.

Carroll, who has endured an injury-plagued two-and-a-half years at Upton Park, came through Newcastle's youth academy, and scored 33 goals in 91 appearances for the club.

The England international is not first choice striker under Slaven Bilic, but recently scored the winner in a 2-1 victory over Chelsea. We'll see how this one progresses in the coming weeks ahead of the January transfer window...
