Welsh Councils have more than 200 people earning over £100K

According to Wales Online, Welsh councils are paying approximately 200 people more than £100K a year. One council,Gwynedd was paying their chief executive about £300,000 a year including benefits. What goes on in Gwynedd for the CE to earn that kind of money. I realise they must pay top staff a decent salary but how can they justify these salaries when the PM is on about £145,000.No wonder some councils can't make ends meet !

My wife works for Merthyr County Council, they're axing another 200 jobs here and have to save another 5 million due to the cuts being forced on them from Westminster. Seeing reports like this is not great news for those facing job cuts.

Morally wrong when low paid staff are made redundant in cost cutting exercises. However, these salaries are nothing compared to those of the greedy city bankers who also get multi million bonuses despite us tax payers having bailed them out in recent history.

If they are on a contract they should all take a 15% pay cut or be told they wont have their contract renewed.

Some councils should be scrapped anyway - fecking Gordon brown changed them from being something like 8 or so authorities into 22 authorities - imagine all that duplication. Birmingham has a population of 3 million like Wales - and it only has one council !!

Now while I generally agree with the fact that bankers are paid far too much, at least they make money for the banks and that's why they also get the bonus..The senior officers in the council do not generate any income for the council and in fact,they waste a lot of council tax payers money. There was a big fuss a couple of years ago about senior managers who were paid enormous salaries to run charities, and the argument was,charities need to pay high salaries to attract the best people. I don't see any problem with high salaries providing companies that pay them are making sufficient profits which senior managers will have some responsibility for. Don't forget most of the public sector budget is spent on salaries which can range from about 75-85% of the money coming in,so if the the VOG gets £175 million from grants and council tax,anything between £132million and £148 million is paid out in salaries. It means that senior council managers have to manage something between £27 and £43 million.As for charities,a big proportion of the money they receive as donations is paid out in salaries,it's not as much as the public sector but can be as much as 50%.

In 1996,we went from 8 councils to 22 when he 8 councils were only established in 1974. Now the WAG talking shop wants to reduce the councils again to 9 or 10. Why do we need so many levels of bureaucracy in some parts of Wales, in Barry we have the town council,the VOG,AM's, MP's and MEP's,that cover all of Wales. We have 4 police forces, 3 fire services, so why don't we reduce the councils down to these low numbers aswell. There's also talk about increasing the number of AM's to up to a 100,what the f..k for,they hardly do f..k all now,there'll just be more people on the gravy train

What they haven't told the public through is that it's law that councils have to bank a certain percentage of their money for emergencies (flooding etc), but since the last council elections in 2012 most have even spunked those funds against the wall!!! Yet it's easy then for Welsh councils and Welsh Labour in he WAG to blame a Tory government because that wins them votes but not the reality

these councils waste so much money it beggers belief. when Caerphilly council built a new council offices they bought a new table and chairs for meeting........Italian solid wood £30,000 ??? all these councils have their own HR, pay , finance and IT departments..........private companies in the uk use one central department for all these. Then you have parish councillors, local councillors, county councillors, AMs, plus their assistants and the 600 people who work at the senedd, then MPs and all their excess baggage, my god what a total waste of time and money. Large companies which generate more money than all our councils put together are run by a handful of people.
