" A very good squad "

Sun Nov 08, 2015 1:35 pm

We in my opinion have a very good squad with the players we have, if they play to there potential would beat any team in this division. So why are we so negative with passes mainly going sideways and backwards and backwards till it gets back to Marshall ? then it's lumped forward to a 50/50 situation.
Why are we so slow in trying to get forward ? If there is an option of a quick break we do not take it. David Marshall not very quick to get the ball out if a player in a good position to get forward. We have the players so why play so negative as there is no need to do so. I would rather lose going forward playing good football, than Just draw playing dire negative football.
Many will say but we are 7th why moan ? The fact is the fan base is dwindling every week and will continue to do so. How long as a Club can we sustain this before its decided things need to change. A few I know yesterday just couldn't be bothered to go deciding to just stay in in the dry and a warm house because they can't be bothered to watch total dross again.

That's main point I bang on about slow from Marshall onwards , silly thing is every now and again we decide to go forward. And we break with menace but its so rare no one notices! And agree with you on this , no need for such negative play

We still need to bring in another striker in Jan if we are going to make the playoffs.

We don't break forward quickly because we have no pace on the team.

Saadi looked promising but we still some-one with pace to burst forward from the middle.

Must have been on one of Malky's lists then. Can't be a Tan or Slade signing.

I was told it went back to the Frank burrows days then again he managed the team and all that goes with it back then when football was a good day out and fans never acted like spoilt brats as we never expected anything back then :laughing6:

I agree with a lot of that, it's not just pace. The amount of times it should have come wide to Malone who had space but didn't was criminal. I was screaming, Malone should be demanding it and if it doesn't come bollock who has slowed it up. Was slow lethargic and no purpose. Look, am easily pleased and very rarely get a bee in my bonnet about the football. But it's so bloody obvious sometimes. We are so quiet as a team. :sad7:

Mason offers jack shit up top, that's why the ball hangs around in midfield then goes backwards

We Have Fabio and Malone that can get forward quite quick. No one can go if marsh keeps the ball. No not tremendous pace but enough if it's seen quick enough to get forward. Yesterday Malone was screaming at Marshall to give it to him when he had loads of space but Marsh just looked at him and kept hold of the ball. Safe ? Yes exciting ? Fook no

we do have pace in the squad but slade prefers to go with the slow feckers. Hopefully after saturday we`ll see a change.

The answer is simple.
We play that way because the directive, style and tactics come from the manager. He dictates it so that's how we play.

My biggest gripe is this nonsense about a 'lopsided 4-4-2' which is in place because central midfield can't cope.

When Ralls plays on the left he is basically covering central midfield and the left back position but doesn't get to go forward.

The reason is Whittingham is the weak link when playing in centre midfield.

On Saturday Ralls and Gunner did the business in central midfield without needing additional help and as a result Craig Noone and Anthony Pilkington thrived.

It has to be the way to play from now on.

I'm hoping Slade learns from Saturday and moves on with fresh thinking. The test for me is Derby. Does he bottle it and revert to type because of his limitations or does he shake himself up and start acting like a professional. I hope the latter. However, as for the squad quality, I've never thought it as great as many have but its above average for this division. We obviously have stars like Marshall, Manga, Fabio and Ralls who are destined for the premier; we have a sprinkling of good quality Championship players like Connolly, Gunnar, Jones and Digakoi and we have players like Noone and Pilkington who can sometimes be good and sometimes not. Otherwise we have quite a few average players. An exception is Kennedy who hasn't been given a chance. With the right support and tutelage he could be playing in the Premier one day

i think a top striker would do wonders for us, someone like bamford or campbell if palace would let either go on loan.

Could make a massive difference considering Mason isnt up to it, Machedas never fit and saadi is untested.

Campbell would receive a very warm welcome upon his return, particularly from me

Totally agree on that.

Also with Paul, Campbell didn't make the bench for Palace, not sure if he is injured but would be ideal compared to Mason

We could loan Bamford from Chelsea.

So are we saying that Slade has overseen a massive reduction in gone budget yet retained a very good squad? If so we don't want rid of him surely.

Not really, he sold players yes but I think any manager can do that.

Then you have to consider who he brings in and his ability to get the best out of what he has available.

For me signings have been average to poor and I don't believe he gets the best out of the squad.
