' THE CURIOUS CASE OF MATTHEW KENNEDY '
05/11/15
After signing on a free from Everton in January, Matthew Kennedy become a main-stay in the Cardiff team last season, impressing with a number of solid performances from a wide position. This season, Kennedy is yet to have a look-in and he is yet to make a single appearance for the Bluebirds this term.
The promising Scottish wide-man provided the much needed spark last season in an otherwise depleted Cardiff City line-up but this season he is nowhere to be seen. Kennedy is yet to play a single game so far this season despite many supporters believing he’s just what Cardiff City need.
At the moment, Cardiff lack creativity and ideas with little to offer going forward but despite this, there is a large amount of consistency in Russell Slade’s line-up selection. The tricky winger made fourteen appearances last term providing two assists.
The Everton academy graduate offers a massive amount of creativity from the wing as he proved last season with most fans seeing him as one of the only bright sparks in the team. Kennedy turned 21-years of age last week and remains in the development squad for the most part although he seems to be of higher quality than the under-21 set up.
With Cardiff’s creativity all but missing, Bluebirds’ fans will be hoping to see Kennedy given a chance soon, especially with Craig Noone and Sammy Ameobi failing to impress currently. Kennedy was expected to play a regular part in this season after looking promising in pre-season but he seemed to go missing when Sammy Ameobi signed on loan from Newcastle United.
On Monday we carried out a quick poll on Twitter asking supporters whether they wanted to see Matthew Kennedy start and a massive 87% voted in favour of the Scott starting on the wing for Cardiff City, something the vast majority of Cardiff fans probably agree with.

he just has to start. Not only will it give us an extra option but will make their defenders have to think outside of the one dimension we currently play, which can open other areas of the field

One of the amazing decisions that has seen the fans lose faith in Slade. He could be class with the right management. Why not have on the bench and bring on for the last 20-30 mins? Is it a personality issue? I'd like to know.

He has potential, but at the moment he's just a fast kid in football boots.
Needs time in the reserves to learn. Not sure I've seen a worse final ball from a player

I think Kennedy would freshen things up and would be a better option then No one at the moment.
On the other hand I would not be surprised to see Kennedy holding up a

Madness that Slade signed him but hasnt played him at all this season.
He looked skilful and positive towards the end of last season. We are crying out for some creativity atm.
Slade wont play him though, doesnt even seem close to the first team.

I think that is exactly the reason why Slade has not played him at all this season.
Slade seems to hold a grudge against anyone who says anything detrimental about the set up and it seems like Kennedy has been put in detention by the useless school teacher who wants to teach him a lesson.

It was his comment about the 'flat' dressing room but he then when on to say how RS had turned it around. I agree that it appears to be the only reason that Kennedy is not playing and I think the lad absolutely needs to be starting.

Slade doesnt like flair players and he won't put his faith in young inexperienced players. He would rather play an experienced but mediocre player than develop young players with potential. Its all very safe and mediocre. There doesnt seem to be a long term perspective.
