It's Not Rocket Science - Slade Team Selections

Wed Nov 04, 2015 8:56 am

Slade has set us up defensively since the start of the season playing Ralls out wide when he is not a wide player and leaving Noone on the bench alongside Ameobi and with Kennedy not even in the squad.

I can understand playing a defensive team away from home to get the point but setting us up with the same formation, defensive players at home is totally negative particularly when we are not blessed with decent strikers. Bristol City at home was a classic example when we were totally outplayed and didn't even get an attempt on target. Packing the midfield with Gunnar, Whitts, Dikgacoi and Ralls is not really going to frighten our opponents. The only bit of creativity and pace has been Noone.

Slade has even ignored Jones when he has been fit and settled for Ravell and Mason.

Surely at home we should put out an attacking team rather than waiting to go behind to make changes as in the Fulham game. We have Noone, Ameobi, Pilkington and Kennedy to choose from but when was the last time we played with two wide men?

Now Jones is fit he should be the focus of the attack. It is quite clear that Slade's thinking is safety first and play for the point. If we nick a winner then all the better. Whatever happened to the attacking attractive football that WILL bring the fans back? It does not seem to be on our managers agenda. We desperately need a bit of pace up top.

Spot on we should be attacking at home against poor teams like Bristol. Drop either Whits or Ralls dont play them both. If our strikers are so poor swap one for an attacking midfilder, Pilks is our biggest threat imo.

Maybe try noone, pilks, ameobi attacking in a 4231.

Agree, Whitts & Ralls are the same type of player. Need one or the other and get some pace and width in the team. Slade is playing with a back 8 rather than a back four. His policy is to play safe and stick with the point rather than go for the win. Just relies on set prices to nick us a goal and that is at home as well as away.

I think if Slade was going to change things, we'd have seen it at some point in the last 10 months. Sadly, he's stubbornly stuck to his 4-4-2 with an attacker on one side of the middle 4, and a strong central midfielder played out of position on the other side, making our attacks so damn predictable. He simply won't play two attacking wingers at once, so makes us toothless as a result.

The fact that he'll only adjust his formation to go to a midfield diamond says it all. 4-4-2 is outdated and that's shown by even championship teams abandoning it. Even if Slade somehow got us up, we'd be torn apart in the premiership just because of our style of play, let alone who's picked each week.

This Saturday is the perfect chance. Whits suspended so Ralls has to play the creative roll. Hopefully we'll see two wide men and Jones up top, but the sceptic in me fears a Dikachoi Gunnarson central partnership as I don't think Slade knows about attacking football. :sladeout:
