Cardiff City against Leeds is all about history... but Russell Slade's Bluebirds need a victory and they need it now!

Slade's shot-shy side need to win at Elland Road to continue their impressive recent record against Leeds

A clash between Cardiff City and Leeds United in footballing terms is all about one thing - history!
This latest encounter might have plenty riding on it too, with Russell Slade’s Bluebirds in search of a return to winning ways and a return to scoring goals at Elland Road.
In addition, new Leeds boss Steve Evans is desperately hoping to win over a cynical fan-base and arrest a run of results at the Yorkshire club that has seen them lose their last four Championship outings on home soil, including a 2-0 beating by Blackburn last time out.
But the clash between the Welsh club and the Yorkshire club always comes with more than just the promise of the here and now, it comes draped in tradition and nostalgia, a tale of two giants divided and fallen on hard times.
Of two sets of fans with an antipathy towards each other that has never been fully explained.
One point of reference, of course, is January 6, 2002 and all that.
The day the Bluebirds, then in the third tier of the game, humbled the then-mighty Leeds in the FA Cup in a rabid atmosphere in the Welsh capital
It is often seen as a result that precipitated the decline of the Elland Road club, who had arrived at Ninian Park that day top of the Premier League, a tipping point from which they have never recovered.
The stakes are perhaps not so high tonight, the atmosphere perhaps not so keen, but the Bluebirds arrive at Leeds making a sort of history of their own.
Much is being made of the goal-shy nature of the Bluebirds right now, with Cardiff not having seen one of their own players score in almost seven and a half hours of football.
