' Cardiff City facing defensive injury crisis for Leeds United clash with Lee Peltier 50/50 for Elland Road trip '

Peliter is a doubt for the game with fellow full-back Fabio out for six weeks and both Bruno Manga and Ben Turner already on the sidelines

Cardiff City are facing a defensive injury crisis ahead of their trip to Leeds United with fitness concerns over both their first-choice full-backs.

Bluebirds boss Russell Slade has been rocked by the news live-wire Brazilian defender Fabio could be out for up to six weeks with injury.

And fellow full-back Lee Peltier is rated 50/50 for the Championship visit to Elland Road having picked up a calf strain.

It creates a real headache for Russell Slade as his side look to make it five clean sheets on the bounce.

“The loss of Fabio is a major disappointment,” said Slade.

“It’s a blow for us, no doubt about that.

“We were hoping nothing was broken and that is definitely the case but he will still be missing for us.

“We’re really disappointed. He's had a very good start to the season and was in good form.”

Fabio limped off in the first half of the Bluebirds’ 0-0 draw at Ipswich last Saturday and had an X-ray on a foot problem.

It revealed that despite suffering no broken bones, the 25-year-old has damaged ligaments and will be absent for at least a month.

Should Peltier join Fabio in missing the game with Leeds, Slade faces real selection questions at the heart of his back four.

With Fabio absent, Scott Malone is in line to step in at left-back with Matthew Connolly potentially moving across to the other full-back berth.

That in turn creates a space next to Sean Morrison at centre-half, a position where Connolly has excelled so far this season.

Both Bruno Manga (groin) and Ben Turner (ankle) are on the treatment table and with Semi Ajayi on loan at AFC Wimbledon, Slade may be forced to employ some emergency defensive cover.

Meanwhile, striker Kenwyne Jones has overcome a shin injury and will travel to Yorkshire as part of the Bluebirds’ 20-man squad.

His presence will come as a significant boost to Slade as his side have found goals hard to come by in recent outings.

But there was bad news over midfield enforcer Kagisho Dikgacoi, who will again miss out at

Every club has injuries like these. Isn't this why we brought in Tamas as cover?
It's a squad game these days.

Forgot about Tamas. I assume he is available for selection if required?

I thought Tamas could play centre back or full back

He was on the bench last Saturday so presumably he is.
I, personally, would keep the centre back pairing though as we've been pretty good defensively lately I wouldn want to upset things in the middle.

Tamas has to come in really, that would be the best option IMO

We have Conolly, Morrison, Malone, John, Tamas fit as well as Blaise and a few other good development players. We also have Ralls and Gunner who have played at the back when required.

Not the end of the world, it's only leeds!!! Ha ha

Tamas and Gunnar has played RB, Ralls could fit in at LB, injuries happen to everyone.

its tough though, you could argue that our entire first choice back four are out and that doesnt happen to everyone.

Fortunately, defense is a position we have not only enough cover, but quality cover

"Why is out of touch Slade signing yet another defender we don't need" you all said when he signed Tamas.

Funny how everyone seems to think we need him now. :laughing6:

could quite easily have kept oshilaja instead and we would be in the same position

Now is the time to play Declan John. His chance to prove if he can play at left back or not.

But Oshilaja is much better off on loan playing regular games for his progression. What good would it have done Oshilaja playing non competative development games this season? That wouldn't have brought him on further as a player at all.

Oshilaja's progressed from Newport in League 2 to Gillingham, a team currently towards the top of League 1. He's progressing the right way to become a Championship standard defender for us. Tommy O'Sullivan and Barnham-Bobb will both come back to us better players from their Newport loans as well.
