Was talking to a Fulham fan in work about Eddie. Had to retire due to a heart problem apparently.

Bit of a cult hero Eddie!! Best of luck to him.

That first goal is a cracking strike. Would love someone with his pace upfront now.

Former Cardiff City Football Club striker Eddie Johnson has retired from football at the age of thirty-one on medical advice.

The United States international forward, who earned sixty-three caps for USMNT, was a regular scorer in the MLS either side of his spell in the UK.

Having excelled for FC Dallas and Kansas City Wizards early in his career, Eddie joined City on loan from Fulham back in 2008/09, and made a total of thirty-three appearances for the Bluebirds over the course of that season.

He scored his first goal in British football for City in a 3-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers, as he soon made himself a cult hero in South Wales.

Indeed, chants of ‘USA’ became commonplace on the terraces at Ninian Park, as Eddie went on to strike (at both ends) against Derby County, in doing so becoming the final Cardiff City player to score under the Ninian Park floodlights.

After further loans at Aris F.C. and Preston North End, Eddie then returned to the United States. He netted a total of twenty-nine goals for the Seattle Sounders from 2012-2013 before finishing his career at D.C. United.
