' LEEDS UTD '

Sun Nov 01, 2015 12:34 pm

This week 14 years ago Leeds Utd were top of the Premier League thanks to a 2-1 win over Spurs.

The irony for Leeds is that it was 14 years and the club have had 14 permanent managers since 2001.

Many believe that Cardiff City were the club that started the downfall of Leeds Utd with our famous 2-1 win at Ninian Park in the FA Cup when Leeds topped the Premier League.

Carl

They haven't beaten us since and I believe they are struggling to win at home, however the way we have been performing of late, this is going to the best chance of breaking their jinx, prey I am wrong but I can see it happening :ayatollah:

I hardly class an FA Cup upset as the start of a downfall. Peter Ridsdale is the man that destroyed that club.

Jon, The Riddler himself said it in his book and in person that it played a part.

Carl, I firmly believe WE were the club that started their decline!

They had it all at that time, including a very good manager, and should have been out of site after the (great) Viduka goal!

Leeds capitulation after we equalised, Alan Smith's sending off and their questionable 'deflection' tactics aimed at our 'buoyant' supporters and enthusiastic owner, Sam Hammamm after the final whistle was embarrassing!

People wrongly accuse Ridsdale of being the catalyst, as when researched properly he was more the media savvy figure head than anything else and others were equally (if not more) culpable than him!

But it was that defeat against Cardiff City FC that started their demise and they rapidly slipped down the table and (the major factor in their fall) they failed to get into the European Championship the following year after budgeting for it in their borrowing!

Have to say that I loved that game and the atmosphere of the old Ninian Park and the elation shown by Cardiff fans (none of which was genuinely malicious)

Leeds United were never the same again and it couldn't have happened to a better club (with the possible exception of one!) LOL

That game might not have been the total reason for their decline but it certainly was the catalyst.

Up to the match they had won five of their last seven league fixtures - immediately following our game, they drew 4 and lost 3 of the next seven, plus a draw and defeat in the UEFA cup. That's a dramatic reversal of form..
