Also to a certain extent Tommy O'sullivan and Theo Wharton:
Declan released by Cardiff and then went on to be on Manchester Uniteds books, was the youth team captain and was infront of Paddy Mcnair in the team, unfortunatley had to retire due to a complex knee injury but would have been playing for United first team at the start of last season infront of Mcnair and Blackett when United had a lot of defensive injuries
Regan Poole has just put on Twitter him training with the United first team, due to FAW and FA being different organisations there was a bit of red tape to allow him to play but apparently Van Gal wants to put him in the squad for a few European games
Josh Yorwerth on the fringes of Ipswichs first team and had a decent game against United in the league cup recently
Theo Wharton seems to have been around forever including Tommy O'sullivan and also Declan John for that matter but none seem even close to the match squad but a lot of these players are deemed good enough for much better teams than ourselves
So what is going on with our youth system and coaching and why aren't we giving local kids a chance, surely 2 or 3 breaking through in the Ledley, Ramsey type way even if not as accomplished would get the fans coming back and feel and affintiy with the club
Any thoughts?

My thoughts are come back to me when they are stars.
The player who went to united and was ahead of McNair is nowhere to be seen now is he?

As I mentioned he gained a very serious knee injury, had an operation that only 4 other people in the world had ever had apparently and had to retire when it was not a success, still wakes up in pain every day, the boys was 19 when he had to retire, so yes he was infront of them just unfortunate really .... My point isn't really that these boys need to be stars either, we are a mid table championship club, surely we should be giving these boys game time and a chance to 'make' it

Didn't see that.
See how Regan Poole gets on.

In a certain degree I agree with you that they should be getting game time in our first team. But the abuse Slade was getting last season and the way we were struggling there was no way he was going to risk them with the exception of John. This season they are better off at newport for now until January when he can review where we are. Maybe play them in fa cup etc but at the moment better playing 1st team loan than 2nd for us. Only John maybe on wing as not LB would get in at present imo

Let's wait and see. As far as I am aware in the last 10 years not one of our released young players has gone on to become a first teamer at Championship level or above. Hardly suggests that we have given away lot of very good players. I 'd agree ,though, that the club are very reluctant to give kids a chance. O'sullivan should certainly have been given a go by now. Surely a more talented player than O'keefe. Likewise Oshilaja. I cant believe we let him go out on loan and then brought in the deadbeat Tamas as defensive cover. No doubt on higher wages too. But nothing will change while Slade is here. Too worried about his job to risk young players.

It happens at all clubs giving away promising academy players.

I was actually speaking to someone down the club in the Bristol game and he was giving me some information on youth players in the UK, apparentyl people with a club at the age of 21, it's something like 90% of them (he was roughly guessing this figure) are out of the game by 25 as they get big contracts at Chelsea and Man City etc on £15000-£20000 a week and are reluctant to go out on loan or loan teams can't afford them, they are happy to sit back on the money they earn and then never break through, so is it maybe a case of young players being softer than earlier years

Declan had knee problems when he was at Cardiff No one was surprised when he was dropped from the academy they simply had better centre halves at the club .
Josh had his issue and think it has been well documented that it was more his attitude an problems he caused than anything else .
Regan I can't comment on as I do not know the lad but someone stated he left the club rather than being dropped

I heard a comment about O'Sullivan too saying he is more style than substance but obviously the aim has to be getting him out and playing to start developing the substance, hopefully he comes back from Newport ready to step into the squad

IMO under slade no youth will get a chance. Too much of a steady eddy cautious manager to take risks and play some youngsters.
