STICK WITH SAMMY AMEOBI?

29/10/2015

By Chris Wathan

One of the concerns pointed out when Ameobi was signed under the noses of Wolves was his failure to nail down a position.

Not quite a winger, not quite a striker and unproven as a No 10, it’s still unclear where the Newcastle loanee can flourish the most.

He has served well as an impact player, the initial flurry of energy and pace able to unsettle teams in the closing stages.

It begs the question why he cannot make such an impact from the off in a game with the 23-year-old hardly impressing at Preston.

There is a school of thought, though, that he needs to play into some kind of consistency and perhaps biting the bullet and giving him a run of starts may give greater benefit a month down the line, perhaps boosting fitness that hasn’t fully convinced too.

He clearly has the attributes in there to make a difference, but teasing it out of him – and getting up to speed – is the task.

He just doesn't seem fit enough ,I think his position is on the wing

4 4 2 isn't his type of team.

He is best used in attacking role.

In which case he is a wasted talent with us as Slade only knows how to play 4-4-2.
I was watching the game against the Worzells on Monday on Sky with Annis and Carl and before the game even kicked off when the teams were shown along with the formations of both teams I said to Carl that we will not win this game as Slade won't know how to combat Bristols formation and boy was I right.

He's a winger. The way he composes himself and shoots, he is a winger

Shame Slade doesn't use him as one! When he comes on he should be attached to last defender to keep them occupied and to make them drop back instead of attacking us all the time!

The decision to send him here wasn't a strange one. Can he fit in a conventional 442 by playing centre forward. I think the answer may be becoming a firm no.

Physically he is not good enough to last a premier league game even in his preferred wide forward role, but if they could convert him and he scored a few goals maybe they can get a half decent fee for him.

When Slade tried him as a wide midfielder in our standard 442 you could visibly see his confidence drain, he didn't have a clue.

I believe this will be a wasted season for him. Merely a cameo role as a sub from now on.

Slade has one role of the dice left, the second striker with Jones, but I just can't see him leaving Mason out.

He could be very useful as he's dangly and awkward to deal with, so keeping opposition deeper than they are at present# because up to now there is no one to prevent opposition camping inside our half! :o

Odd signing as we have had injuries wide and upfront and still doesn't look like he will fit in. Odd signing when we know Slade will only play 4-4-2

Nothing to do with that, he he fits into the 4-4-2 then fine why isn't slade playing him? moved Whitts outside before giving him a chance and Macheda and Jones out injured upfront?

because he cannot last a full 90 minutes.

Maybe this was known before maybe not. but he has the ability to come on and change the game like he has already done.

It may well be a disappointing/frustration signing. but nothing about it makes it odd

the o'keefe signing was an odd one however

He is an impact player for me someone to nick a goal or create something near the end in a tight game i think he should play as a number 10 in a 4411. :ayatollah:

I'd rather see him out wide, like against mk dons, beating players and getting balls in
