A lot on here will have egg on their face

and will be eating humble pies when MASON rocks this division when we have somebody in midfield who can actually make a telling pass. Aguero would struggle to score here with the supply our strikers have :bluebird:

I think Whittingham is capable of making a telling pass.

Joe Mason , although a clever player with his runs into space , just doesn`t have the outright pace to take advantage of such a telling pass. Aguero (and plenty of others at a far lower level) have the pace to run on to a ball played in behind defenders and stay clear of them to get a shot away. Joe, unfortunately , does not.

Mason could probably be a regular scorer in the lower divisions. As plenty have already said, he has no pace and is easily knocked off the ball. I can never see him getting many goals against championship defenders, and I don't believe he is up to this standard of football. We already have players who are capable of making a telling pass, but he does'nt have the pace to get onto them.

He does need improved feed maybe but how are you proposing he gets it? I would eat humble, pork and Claarkes pies if he smashed it. Only too willing. What are you going to eat?? Your foot that is in your mouth?? Embarrassing.

If he has a pacy striker next to him would really benefit him.

Any one of three players would have scored the goals Mason scored, its his bloody job !!!!!!!!

No I'm sorry I just don't think he's good enough you only have to look at the hull game to see when he comes up against a decent side he is out of the game they bullied him he's to weak and no Pace(sadly)

I have to agree with you here, the amount of wasted runs he made on Monday but the midfield played safe every time, shocking :(

Dont be sorry everyone is entitled to an opinion i think Mason is capable at this level he just hasnt formed a good patership other than Jones.

Whittingham and Jones have given Mason plenty of great balls. He's simply not good enough.

Way off unfortunately. Very average player in a very average team. If this team gets us 10th we should be saying that's about right.

Agree he's to weak on the ball gets bullied off the ball

His lack of a change in pace means he simply won't make it in the Championship.

Stop blaming the midfield, they know they can't play balls over the top or in the channels as he simply won't get on the end of it. That makes us easy to defend against, particularly at home.

Nice bloke but playing above his level of Div 1

Ridiculous statement! Aguero would score with or without service. He would run rings around this division.

Mason is not on the same planet footballing-wise.

The name Aguero was only used to accentuate my statement, tongue-in-cheek, doh, didn't say Mason is on same level.
And anyway I would back Mason to beat Aguero over 100m so the 'he's too slow' is bollocks. He would thrive off somebody like Koumas or nowadays Joe Cole

I would be shocked if that was anywhere near correct but if even it was; over the key first 10 metres for a striker I would suggest Aguero would finish the 10 before Mason got past 5 metres

Absolute drivel. When do strikers sprint 100m without having to control the ball? You pick a world class player as an example and then back pedal by making another wild statement!!?? If what you said is true, I wonder why Man City aren't sniffing around for Mason as a backup for Aguero.

If Mason is not showing his true amazing form because of a lack of service, why can't a top crosser or superb ping merchant be bought? Oh I know why - Because that would cost millions and even then Mason would struggle against big centre halves. Face it: There is little goal threat at the moment from anyone and the sooner KJ comes back and Saadi is fit, the better.

mmm, I don't know mate....both seem yard or two short of pace. Pace aint everything though, helps yes, but not everything, look at what Fowler achieved. We need a midfielder who can put is foot on the ball and play and let the likes of Gunarrson do his running for him :bluebird:

I certainly agree with you that speed of thought is even more important but I would argue that Fowler, even in his days with us !!, was quicker over those first 5 yards than Mason  Just before Fowler had the big injury lay off I think he scored a a few goals and it might of been Preston at home he scored a couple and looked the sharpest player on the pitch simply because of his speed of thought. I think he followed that up with scoring a couple away at WBA.

The key with Mason is that he lacks pace and I'm not convinced that he has the speed of thought to compensate for that either.

Re: A lot on here will have egg on their face

I can't fault Mason for his effort but he has no pace at all. This causes him to make runs earlier than he should need to making him offside all the time. Over the past few games there have been some good balls played into him but he is either too slow to get on the end or he has gone to early leaving him offside.

you are right about the Preston game, sticks in my head & throat because it cost me a right few quid because they scored very late late on to draw when we were two up. Aye then he scored at WBA with JFH I think, he then became team leader of the drinking club and that was the end of him. Mason will be Player of the Year at the awards dinner and on the menu
will be humble pie as the dessert :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

If Mason makes me eat humble pie it will taste pretty good as it will probably mean that we've stayed in or around the play-off places all season :ayatollah:  I'm sure that what everyone wants whatever side of the Mason argument you stand  :bluescarf:
