Kenwyne Jones absence

Kenwyne is back in light training

How much is he really missed?

28/10/15

If you point out Cardiff have registered just one goal, and that was an own goal in the win over Middlesbrough, in just five minutes short of six hours of football now, then it is no surprise that Slade, after the Bristol City match, was left muttering darkly about trying to find something in the final third.

You were left thinking a player in the same colour shirt might be nice.

Blakey's Bootroom: Nathan Blake says Russell Slade must settle on Cardiff City's best shape

The Bluebirds miss Kenwyne Jones of course, whose shin injury has seen him out of his side’s last three games including this Severnside derby of course.

It cannot be a coincidence, surely, that the big man’s absence has coincided with his side searching for the opposition goal with less success than the Knights Templar had looking for the Holy Grail. Jones gets his fair share of goals, he was last season’s top-scorer after all, but more than that, the effort put in by the opposition to dealing with his imposing presence frees up space for others. Just ask Joe Mason.

Injury Update: Kenwyne Jones set to sit out Ipswich clash with shin problem

This derby performance felt like a step backward for the Bluebirds and their boss. A bad day at the office or another example of the inconsistency that has plagued Slade’s Cardiff since he took charge? Whatever, it was clearly an encounter that gave the Slade naysayers and the ‘I told you so’ brigade a rare outing of late.

Huge miss. Our best striker by a country mile and we're toothless without him. However that doesn't say much and a result of poor attacking purchases by slade and also malky. We haven't had an exciting attacking combination since the days of DJ with both and chops.

Not sure if he is missed as he's as inconsistent as team, and causes us as many problems as other team does through lack of effect! :o

There's a chance for Leeds away :thumbright:

Jones has no mobility, no pace and is not hardworking. He's a physical presence and threat in the air. To say he's our best striker doesn't compliment the others!

Annis

Talking to him just before Monday`s game and looking at the way he was limping very badly , that timescale looks very optimistic. He could hardly put any weight on his bad leg.

I agree it doesn't say much about the others, but he is still the best!!

Whether he's mobile or hard working is almost irrelevant in a side with no other threat. He does score goals, lazy and sluggish he may be judged to be, but I'd pick him every time if he was fit!!

Um...mason has more goals this season! None of our strikers has pace. Ironically, our best finisher is the hated Macheda!

Our fans can slag him off as much as they like, but he's still our best striker by a mile.

Best defender too.

Massively he is the one who creates space for Mason. :thumbright: :ayatollah:
