'Hard to beat as they are as hard to watch'

You can only imagine what those watching live on television thought about the fare on offer, ‘Quick, turnover, there’s a particularly exciting episode of Bargain Hunt on the other side!’ Or something along those lines.

Look, no one is decrying the good, if unspectacular, start Russell Slade’s men have made to their Championship season. Eighth in the table, hanging in on the play-off places, they are solid and disciplined, in fact, Slade’s Bluebirds are as hard to beat as they are as hard to watch at times.

This Severnside derby was, in a word, pathetic, particularly from a Cardiff perspective. Bristol City, fresh from League One and struggling to adapt to the dizzy heights of the second-tier, should have won by a couple of goals at least and would have, too, if not for the brilliance of David Marshall in the home goal. The Scotland international was like a shining beacon of light in a grey, stagnating sea.
