To me it's pretty simple. People want either entertainment or success.
Under Dave Jones we might have failed in the ultimate aim of promotion but we were always in and around the play-offs, had 3 trips to Wembley and, for a lot of the time, played some of the best football I've seen in the 44 years I've been going down to Ninian/CCS.
In addition he also had a team of players that would get you off your seat (sometimes with frustration

) in Johnson, Loovens, SuperKev, Burke, Chopra, Bothroyd, McCormack, Whitts, etc. It was hardly ever dull.
Malky then brought success by being organized and grinding out results but also had a lot of money to spend when he needed it. The key was getting Campbell in the January of our promotion year giving us that final piece of the jigsaw that gave us promotion relatively easily in the end but at the same time hardly ever winning a game by more than a goal.
At the moment Slade doesn't really have the players to get us off our seats with the possible exceptions of Fabio, Whitts and, fleetingly, Ameobi. We can grind out results but the lack of forward options and pace is worrying particularly with Jones injured which is why we simply can't break down the poorer teams when they set out to frustrate us.
Unless we can get a striker in with pace and goal power then it's mid table for us. We will be safe because we won't give away many goals but I can't see us being able to win those tight games.
If Saadi proves us cynics wrong then all is not lost and Slade may be able to succeed using the Malky approach and maybe the crowds will then come back, otherwise, it's going to be a largely frustrating season.
