About 800 Bristol City fans are coming, they were allowed 2,000 tickets.

Severnside derby: Bristol City fans boycotting Cardiff game over ticket restrictions
By The Bristol Post

October 25 2015

Monday will see the first Severnside derby in two years as Bristol City face Cardiff City away.

But, after trouble at previous matches between the two rivals, all Bristol City fans will have to collect their tickets from Cardiff West service station, at Junction 33 off the M4.

Tickets can only be collected between 6:15pm and 6:45pm, leaving an hour to travel to the ground, and find seats before kick-off.

It means people wishing to attend may have to travel with other fans on the coaches provided, despite some having previously made alternative travel plans

Nick Milsom, 46, has been a season ticket holder at Bristol City for ten years, and attended the last Severnside derby in Cardiff in 2013.

He said: "I considered going to watch the derby. But the last time I went to watch City at Cardiff [in 2013] I felt I was treated like a criminal.

"I am just a football fan, and I wanted to watch the team. But after the match we were all kettled together by the police and herded towards the train station. And when I tried to explain I needed to get my car and I was shouted at by a police officer and shoved up against the wall.

"I realised I was not going to win the argument and agreed to move on but I feel as though their aggression made the situation 100 per cent worse.

"I have started taking my nine-year-old son, Isaac, to games but there is no way I could take him to that he would be terrified by the way the police are handling things.

"I understand they have a job to do but from what I saw it was just a group of football fans trying to watch their team."

But not all fans will be avoiding the game. Chris Giles, 26, who has been a season ticket holder for 15 years said: "It is not a bubble game at the end of the day. People can travel on their own, it just means people cannot spend the day in Cardiff if they wanted to.

"I think the police presence is needed. It is a local derby and a country rivalry at the end of the day. But in the past the police have not always handled everything the right way.

"If people want to boycott then that is their choice but they are missing out at the end of the day."

A spokesperson from Bristol City FC said: "Disorder in Cardiff two years ago led to extensive discussions between both clubs and the local Police forces. Subsequently the Police have insisted that supporters will be required to collect their match ticket at Cardiff West Services (J33 of the M4) on the night of the match.

"The club fully appreciates this will have an impact on the majority of City fans, whose only intention is to support their team in a law-abiding manner. It is the club's hope that the fixture passes off without incident, meaning these unfortunate restrictions can be lifted once more in the future. "

Bristol City V Cardiff City kicks off at 7:45pm on Monday October 26.

They don't bring much more than that normally

Good for them, well done on boycotting, more of this sort of thing is needed. I'll never go on another 'bubble' type trip ever again.

Re: " MANY BRISTOL CITY FANS WILL BE "

Sun Oct 25, 2015 8:21 am

Leeds was a boycott, this is just fans who can't be arsed with a daft day and time for a local derby coupled with restrictions that stop a tiny element of their fans smashing up a city centre pub again whilst massively inconveniencing the majority.....

We'll have the same restrictions, so will be giving that a miss......

Re: " MANY BRISTOL CITY FANS WILL BE "

For a local derby I would do anything to support team.

They can easily get a coach and meet restrictions'.

You'll probably still get a few knob heads travelling by train anyway.

I understand the reasons for the bubble trip and anything to put the minority of trouble makers off but in my opinion and experience of going on bubble trips - sometimes it just makes fans more irate and wound up before they even get to the match. Take west ham for example - our first match in the premier league for years and I accepted we had to meet the police at the services etc etc and get escorted in but we missed the first 10 mins of kick off because of it and may fans were so and angry before they even got in the ground - not to mention people were then rushing to get to thier seats and it was a major safety issue! It was like a stampede when we were going in. So tell me how is that safe and putting off trouble? I'm all for stamping out trouble but it's probably put fans off coming and let's face it our attendance aren't that great in any case. This said I'm sure the 800 odd fans coming will make the same noise that 1500 would usually do. I also wondered what this means for our away game as we quite often like to do hospitality - does this mean we cannot do this as we get to the ground a couple of hours before? Guess will have to check on that. But whatever the crowd should be a good game looking forward to it.

The blame lies fully with the 'fans' who caused trouble pre-match by smashing up a pub.

Their selfish behaviour has now had a knock-on affect which will so see our fans inconvenienced in the return fixture.

All well calling for boycotts but if fans prove they can't behave themselves then this is what happens

I think the problem you highlight is bad organisation. That in itself is not a reason to stop bubble trips unless it becomes the norm and safety issues are not addressed

Unfortunately if some fans cannot control themselves then bubble trips will continue. We as fans have to accept this and in fairness many have and have done immense work to put things right.

However, if bad behaviour persists then bubble trips will continue.

Agree with your points and hopefully if this season goes by with no trouble from both sets of fans than cross fingers it'll be lifted soon.

Can't fault them it's pathetic that South Wales police can't handle 2,000 fans on a Monday night, I would never do a game with restrictions again even give Swansea away a miss in the prem league f**k being treated like a criminal.

Re: " MANY BRISTOL CITY FANS WILL BE "

Sun Oct 25, 2015 10:24 am

Far from a boycott, it's a slight inconvenience picking tickets up at a certain location and time. I do feel for them after we have similar restrictions over the years, needed a police presence but not the system they have put in place. There would be no trouble other than them smashing up Seats in a pub. Those days are a distant memory.

It's not the police fault they smashed our pub up , their childish and deserve to be treated like shit this time

Boycott as much as they want , they are the reason it's been put in place

It's a 5 min diversion to pick tickets up its not a full bubble hardly even a boycott it's just an excuse for them

What about if your on a train more than a five minute diversion then??

Few fans smashed a pub up who gives a f**k this doesn't happen at any other Derby around the country apart from when Cardiff are involved and people like yourself who just accept it will never help to get it changed.

Football fans in general are treated like shit Annis but your good friend you mentioned in your post obviously was not involved in the destruction of the Great Western pub. Act like animals get treated like Animals. They have only themselves to blame for this bubble game but it's unjust to put the same restrictions on us as we were not involved. Want to fight like minded fans fair enough but vandalism like that is out of order.

Re: " MANY BRISTOL CITY FANS WILL BE "

Sun Oct 25, 2015 5:21 pm

I can't blame them for not attending, all football fans are being treated like mugs from all sides. Their clubs take the piss with extortionate ticket prices and then treated like criminals for turning up in a town a few hours before KO. Is anyone seriously telling me that in this day and age the Police can't let everyone travel and post a couple of officers in the main pubs, to prevent some idiots from smashing up the furniture??? As I say, football fans are happy to be treated like mugs and accept it

It's not a boycott, just a convenient excuse.
As mentioned earlier, they dont bring many to Cardiff anyway. Typical Wurzels, just gobby twats.
And as for picking on innocent tables & chairs, guess that's classed as a result by modern standards - lmfao.

Spot on, good luck to all the Bristol City fans boycotting. Strange that our lot come up with various good reasons not to go to Leeds away, and yet criticize the Wurzels for making a stand!

Re: " MANY BRISTOL CITY FANS WILL BE "

Even with the restrictions they still smashed the pub up last time.

So its there own fault and they havent got an argument.

It's not a boycott, it's an excuse for a poor turnout. We boycotted Leeds last year

Bristol here, firstly, to the couple people who say we don't travel to Cardiff, go and ask your Dads!
This game is on a Monday night, it's more or less a bubble as I can't come to Cardiff on a train, and wouldn't even have time for a beer if I came by road.
I,like a lot of others just can be bothered with it, in fact I'm struggling to get excited about football in general at the moment.
My son will be there though, he actually lives in Cardiff, he doesnt drive though, so he's having to find someone to drive him up and around the m4 just to get his ticket!
I wasn't at the game a couple of years ago, I do know that the 39 B City arrested all received banning orders.
I also know that anyone 'playing up' at football now is a total mug and deserves what they get, simply because it's not worth the prize you get!
Anyway, enjoy the game tomorrow, I won't be there, and won't ever travel anywhere again if restricted.

I know what you are saying mate I hate restricted games and fed up with the way fans are treated. We just got the bubbles lifted after many years and your lot goes and screws it up for the rest of us by being brave and smashing up a pub. Why ? Now you got us both on the bubble again so well done BCFC fans. If it was an off against like minded fans then fair enough but why throw it away on smashing up a boozer that was serving you lot alcohol. Now you can't moan because the restrictions stop your lot drinking can you. ?

Understand what your saying, and each to their own as we are all different. I personally don't think it's a massive inconvenience as you can travel on your own accord it's just a rendezvous point. A bubble is Travelling to Cardiff then being sat on a bus escorted 30mph to pass via your house, then sat on a lay by for an hour hurled in to a ground an hour and half before kick off only to repeat the process on the way back. And when we get the jacks, will I go through that again!! Probably cos football fans r mental

It is funny people saying the Bristol City fans are being treated poorly.

Lets be honest, the furniture in the Great Western will be out looking for revenge, after the last visit of the c##ts from Bristol.

Not the South Wales police. PC Chivers and co would never dream of abusing their authority :|

Ask him why he didn't take you to Specsavers at an early age ;-)
If you didn't see us turn up year on year, then it's either glasses you needed or perhaps a very selective memory!
I myself have travelled to NP about a dozen times over the years, and we always had a good following.
In fact, we once had probably more than you!!

But anyway, those days have gone now, football is sanatised crap now, I'm to old and wise to pay £30 and be treated like shit for 5-6 hours just to watch a football match.
I shall stick the radio on tonight with a cup of tea!
