Russell Slade on the Championship

With 12 games gone, how to you judge the Championship this season?

We’ve played a few teams in top six already, Hull, Brighton and Boro. There’s a few more to play.

I think it’s going to be tough, I don’t see a massive difference between some of the teams.

Look at the points spread, win a couple and you’re looking at top six, lose a few and you are down there.

It shows everyone is capable of getting a win.

Teams that went into transfer market, like Derby, are building up a head of steam now.

Nobody is breaking away though, not at this stage. We’ve played some very good teams.

Bournemouth were outstanding last season when they got promoted, but I’ve not seen a Bournemouth this season yet. But who knows?

If you push up to the top will it strengthen your hand to go to Vincent Tan in the January transfer window?
You read my mind there. Of course, if we can push up there, the idea will be to improve upon where we are now going into the January window.

Then we can look at maybe where we can strengthen again there to push on. We will need to stay injury free too to do that. That’s a big one.

You need by and large to be picking from your top players, week in and week out. I think with a little bit more help in terms of pace and creativity then we will be very dangerous in the second-half of the season.

Is confidence high after the win over Middlesbrough?
It was an important result from a psychological view, to match them as we did and to get the goal even if it was a fortunate one.

It was a big boost. It’s about momentum now, that will keep us going. We are building up a run and we need to keep that going.
